The city is sticking to the goal of receiving the “bicycle-friendly municipality” award.
The city council agreed to this in a decision of principle necessary for the appointment.
Germering
– Germering has been a member of the Working Group for Cycle-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria (AGFK) for three years.
That's one of many requirements needed to call itself a bike-friendly city.
What the city has to do to further promote cycling was recorded in 2019 during a first site visit with AFGK representatives.
It's not just about building bike lanes.
As the city's new mobility officer, Sven Groeting, explained to the city council, communication, service and information are also important in addition to the infrastructure.
Next year, a so-called main tour of the city with the AGFK will show whether the conditions are met.
(
By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular
FFB newsletter.)
According to Groeting, many of these requirements have already been met or are currently being implemented.
When it came to infrastructure, he mentioned, among other things, the bicycle road to Germeringer See, the construction of the bicycle road on Landsberger Straße and the decision to build 14 mobility stations.
The topic of communication is already covered by the city's long-standing participation in the Stadtradeln campaign and the existing Radverkehr Round Table.
What is still planned is, among other things, participation in the reporting platform RADar!
of the climate alliance.
This instrument is intended to make it easier for administrations and citizens to improve cycling in the municipality.
In terms of service and information, the city is already well positioned.
Groeting lists the repair stations at the train stations and at Germering See, the special winter service concept for clearing the cycle paths and the construction of bicycle parking facilities that meet the requirements of the ADFC bicycle club.
Information on cycling is available on the municipal website and in information brochures.
The city also meets the financial conditions of the AFGK: bicycle-friendly municipalities must spend at least eight euros per inhabitant on cycling every year.
This is around 336,000 euros for Germering.
The city councilors unanimously agreed to the specifications for achieving the goal of "bicycle-friendly community".
However, Daniel Liebetruth (SPD) warned that a fundamental decision alone is not enough.
A rethinking of the city council itself is also necessary.
Benedikt Nesselhauf (CSU) pointed out that the city council had made many important decisions to improve cycling.
Christian Ganslmeier (CSU), a self-confessed cyclist, was of the opinion that you can already cycle well in Germering if you want to: "It all takes place in your head." Gerhard Blahusch (Greens) didn't want to let that stand : "There are certainly many places where I don't feel like I'm in good hands as a cyclist." His parliamentary colleague Barbara Mokler also saw it that way.
There are numerous dangerous roads, especially for children cycling.
