Deep geothermal energy is a building block in the energy transition.

The water from the ground could also help with the heat supply at the air base.

Here Fürstenfeldbruck, Maisach and Emmering join forces for an expert opinion.

Fürstenfeldbruck

- Older reports on geothermal energy gave little hope that the water temperature could be sufficient at depth to be able to generate heat economically.

But now the technology is better and there is hope that this renewable energy can be used in the future.

And so the topic of geothermal energy is picking up speed again, some city council factions have organized events or visited plants.

Most recently, the Free Voters had submitted an application that the municipal utilities evaluate the possibilities of geothermal energy and involve the neighboring municipalities.

The air base in particular comes into focus.

"The development of geothermal energy there would be groundbreaking," said Mayor Erich Raff in the city council.

Discussions with Maisach and Emmering have shown that the municipalities are interested in a joint report on deep geothermal energy.

They have even provided money in the household.

The Stadtwerke should be in charge of the expert opinion, take care of the tender and the processing.

The costs should be divided according to the number of inhabitants.

The councilors liked the fact that the municipal utilities were on board.

"It is extremely important that you push ahead with the energy transition in the district," said Jan Halbauer (Greens).

He also praised the inter-municipal cooperation.

As a local energy supplier, the municipal utilities assume responsibility at the regional level, added Philipp Heimerl (SPD).

The public utility company has already received an offer for a preliminary study.

This study is necessary for the permit application, seismological investigations and plant planning.

"It's a good first step," said Mayor Raff, adding that the issue needs to be taken forward.

The city council unanimously commissioned the municipal utilities to draw up an expert opinion with the neighboring municipalities.

The energy transition would not be possible without geothermal energy, said applicant Markus Droth (FW).

He referred to 17 existing plants in the greater Munich area.

The conditions in the district are not optimal with a temperature of the deep water of 90 degrees.

But high-performance heat pumps can get you up to 120 degrees.

“A few degrees can be compensated for there.” Looking at Fursty, Droth pointed out that geothermal energy is also important for cooling.

In view of the skyrocketing price development, other ways of generating energy must be pushed, said Andreas Lohde (CSU).

But geothermal energy is a cost-intensive undertaking.

"We have to put that in relation to other generation options in the surveys."
