Promoting self-determined living: District supports construction projects for people with disabilities

The district of Upper Bavaria supports construction projects for people with disabilities in Oberschleißheim and Putzbrunn with 1.95 million euros.

– Working, living and living in the middle of the community: According to a decision by its social committee, the district of Upper Bavaria is funding several construction projects with around 1.95 million euros that support the participation of people with disabilities.

Among other things, the new construction of a residential complex for people with disabilities in Oberschleißheim and a support center in Putzbrunn are being funded.

Dormitory with 24 places

Augustinum gGmbH is planning a dormitory with 24 places for people with mental and sometimes physical disabilities at Hirschplanallee 2 in Oberschleißheim.

Of these, 20 places have no day-to-day structure, which means that the residents visit a workshop during the day.

Four living spaces are created with a daily structure integrated on site.

The Social Committee granted a subsidy of 534,950 euros for this.

The planned new building is located in an established residential area in the municipality of Oberschleißheim.

The S-Bahn station with connection to Munich is within walking distance.

A general practitioner practices in the immediate vicinity of the residential complex, and there are also numerous shops, restaurants and cafés around the train station, according to a press release from the district.

“These diverse range of everyday needs enable people with disabilities to lead a self-determined life.

Ideally, they can be reached on foot, like here," said District President Josef Mederer.

The good infrastructure offers very good framework conditions for inclusion and participation in social life.

"We are therefore pleased that we can support the Augustinum with a grant."

New funding center for the self-help workshop

In the Theodor-Heuss-Straße 16a in Putzbrunn, the Lebenshilfe Werkstatt Munich intends to build a new support center for people with disabilities.

The building site is right next to the Lebenshilfe workshop.

The extraction facility previously used there was originally designed for four groups.

Seven groups have been cared for there for years, some of them in a temporary extension.

In order to secure the additional need for care places in the long term, Lebenshilfe would like to expand the support center and support up to 36 people there in the future.

The Social Committee granted a subsidy of 413,700 euros for this.

“People with disabilities need the best possible housing, work and support options.

This also includes contemporary and modern equipment and, above all, enough space, ”said District President Mederer.

"That's why it goes without saying for us that we support the Lebenshilfe so that they can finally move from the temporary into a modern building."
