With regard to the shortage of skilled workers, Green Party leader Ricarda Lang thinks of women - and questions the 40-hour work week.

Stuttgart/Berlin – The shortage of skilled workers in Germany should not be underestimated.

The Institute for Labor Market and Occupational Research (IAB) recently published figures on what would happen if the Federal Republic were to stop immigrating skilled workers.

In this case, Germany would have seven million fewer workers by 2035.

Ricarda Lang: "We must increase the employment of women"

That is why the traffic light coalition wants to simplify the integration of specialists, which Greens leader Ricarda Lang advocates.

However, the politician does not see the problem of skilled workers as solved, as BW24 reports.

She said: "If we want to do something about this, it can only be done if we increase the number of women in the workforce.

But that is only possible if we finally recognize the large amount of unpaid work – from taking care of children to caring for relatives – which in this society is largely done by women.

And make it the starting point for a new labor market policy.”

In detail, according to Lang, one must ensure "a better compatibility of family and work", for example through "more childcare offers".

However, the Greens leader also brings a departure from the 40-hour work week into play.

In her opinion, it was "from the last century" anyway.

According to Lang, good economic policy today must be a “caring economy” – that is, an economy based on caring.

Lang: "In short: we need a feminist economic policy."

However, the call for a move away from the 40-hour workweek is not new.

Business expert Marco Lücke said in an interview with

BW24

that he believes in the 4-day week: "I think it will prevail in the future.

It's more and more about employees needing to feel comfortable — rather than just scrubbing their hours.”
