Faced with this craze, the two regular make-up artists of the Netflix series have revealed some filming secrets to reproduce exactly the same look as the character played by Jenna Ortega.
The British professional makeup artist Tara McDonald revealed in particular the instructions given by Tim Burton himself to prepare the look of Wednesday.
“[He] didn't want dramatic goth makeup.
The brief was more about creating the everyday look of a goth girl, so my first thought was [to do] a kind of 'lips that just got bitten',” she says in a recent interview. to American magazine

After trying different colors on the actress' mouth for two weeks, the team finally settled on a very specific product duo.
On the one hand, the MAC Cosmetics lip pencil in the Nightmoth shade (a nude verging on brown), on the other, the multi-purpose balm from the Dr PawPaw brand.
This combo thus made it possible to obtain a simple translucent “dye” rather than a very pigmented and defined result.

The “lip pot” technique
In addition to a careful choice of product, it was also necessary to use a special method of application to maintain the "natural gothic" aspect of the heroine.
For this, the British artist Nirvana Jalalvand, another official make-up artist on the set, invented what she calls “the lip pot technique”.
"Lip pencils are difficult to work with (...) and I couldn't find a lipstick color that matched the pencil," she says in the interview, before sharing her tip for "to make [his] own lipstick".
The specialist has equipped herself with a small empty pot.
She crushed the tip of the MAC pencil and placed the shards in the container, before adding a little transparent lip balm and mixing everything to dilute the pigments.
Then, she made sure that the material was applied evenly: “[The mixture] was dabbed to look like a dye rather than giving perfect definition,” she adds. she.

Glamor version
In the famous Wednesday Addams dance scene that has gone viral on social media, the protagonist this time sports lips with bright highlights.
It is also the only time in the eight episodes of the series that this dismal character will allow himself this touch of fantasy.
To show that the girl “has made a little more effort” to get to the ball, the make-up artists have created a glossy effect on her mouth.
"We used the same lip liner, but brushed on Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream Balm because it's really hydrating and holds its shine quite well," Nirvana Jalalvand continues.
The two artists also stepped up Wednesday's eye makeup by creating a smokeier smoky eye and adding individual false lashes.
