The Agricultural Sub-Committee in Daraa discussed, during its meeting today, the agricultural situation in the governorate, the progress of implementing the agricultural production plan for the agricultural season 2022-2023, the difficulties and obstacles that hindered some aspects of its implementation, and the appropriate proposals to solve them.
The meeting reviewed the rates of implementation of wheat, barley and food legume crops, ways to increase the cultivated areas, the importance of securing the production requirements of fuel, fertilizers and seeds at the specified times, and rationalizing water consumption, while following up on securing the fertilizer needed for wheat cultivation.
The Governor of Daraa, Eng. Louay Khareta, stressed the need to urge farmers to cultivate more agricultural land with the wheat crop due to the importance of this crop in the field of food security, stressing that the seeds are available in sufficient quantities in the branch of the Seed Multiplication Corporation in Izraa, while the necessary fuel for agriculture is distributed to farmers through committees. Location according to availability.
The Director of Agriculture, Engineer Bassam Al-Hashish, reviewed the reality of the implementation of the agricultural plan, indicating that the plan for the current season includes the cultivation of 10,500 hectares with irrigated wheat, 8,400 hectares have been implemented to date, with an implementation rate of 80 percent, and 83,887 hectares have been cultivated with rain-fed wheat. One thousand hectares of barley crop out of 32,422 hectares, with an implementation rate of 92.5 percent.
He added: The cultivation of crops continues and increases according to the rainfall, and the cultivation of food legumes is improving and the cultivated area has exceeded 2,000 hectares out of 23,265 hectares.
