After investigation and intelligence analysis, officers from the Criminal Division of New Territories North Region successfully identified the two persons involved. An arrest operation was launched on Kiu Tau Road, Sheung Shui.

Two local men, aged 41 and 43, were arrested on suspicion of "theft in a car" and "use of false documents".


Preliminary investigations revealed that the two arrested men were suspected to be related to seven other cases of the same type in Fanling, Tai Po, Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan and Tseung Kwan O. A total of about 2,800 liters of diesel oil was lost in the cases, with a total value of about 23,000 yuan.

During the operation, officers seized a pair of unregistered license plates, a batch of tools including fuel pipes, electric fuel pumps, two plastic fuel tanks and about 20 liters of diesel.

The arrested man is currently being detained for investigation, and the case has been handed over to the New Territories North Regional Crime Squad to take over the investigation. The police operation is still continuing, and it is not ruled out that more people will be arrested.

Police appeal to motorists, especially professional truck drivers, to be more vigilant and strengthen car anti-theft equipment, and park their vehicles in parking lots with security measures.

The Police also reminded members of the public not to buy fuel from unknown sources or patronize illegal gas stations.

It is an offense for anyone to buy illegal fuel.
