A cold makes it impossible for you to sleep?
If you want to alleviate the symptoms, you should above all support the self-healing powers, explains a pharmacist.
A cold rarely comes alone.
It is usually one of several cold symptoms.
Do you use home remedies for coughs, runny noses and sore throats?
Not a bad idea.
There are a number of essences that develop soothing effects in the form of tea or cough syrup.
Many doctors and pharmacists also have their own home remedy recipes that are used for nagging colds.
In an interview with the
Fitbook
portal , pharmacist Tanja Inselmann from the Löwen Apotheke in Soltau explains what she does when she has a cold.
Colds can drag on for weeks.
Many swear by home remedies to alleviate the symptoms.

Decongestant nasal spray "up to ten days, no longer"
If a cold is announced, it can usually no longer be stopped, says Inselmann: "The only thing that helps is letting it run, as unpleasant as it is".
In this initial phase of one to two days, you should refrain from taking any preparations, she advises.
The body should be able to optimize its self-healing powers in peace.
Above all, drugs with the active ingredient pseudoephedrine are not recommended because they unnecessarily burden the body by causing blood pressure to rise.
If the nose is completely blocked, the ears often close and sleep is immensely impaired.
In this case, pharmacist Tanja Inselmann advises a decongestant nasal spray: "I take it for a maximum of seven to ten days.
Definitely no longer,” says Inselmann.
Because such sprays can be addictive and long-term use can lead to chronic colds.

Make your own nasal douche: home remedies for a cold
If you do not want to use decongestant nasal spray or are not allowed to do so due to pregnancy, you can rely on a gentle alternative.
“Simply make a salt solution with a teaspoon of salt in a liter of boiled water.
Put them in your cupped hands and pull up vigorously.
That's how my husband always does it," says pharmacist Tanja Inselmann, describing a nasal douche that can have a soothing effect.

An intact immune system can usually fight cold viruses sufficiently well without any medicine from the pharmacy.
We can support the body's defenses by drinking enough fluids.
According to Inselmann, the motto should be: “Drink, drink, drink!
I always realize from my own experience how important this is”.
