Under the title “Let's plant.. for a green future,” the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform held today a central celebration of the 71st Tree Festival, at the forest site of Al-Shalouq in Safita countryside, Tartous governorate.
The celebration, which is part of the national afforestation campaigns for the 2022-2023 season, included the screening of two films on the forest law and its importance. By Afforestation) written and directed by the artist, Dr. Mazen Nizam.
The celebration included an exhibition featuring a number of multi-variety plants, medicinal and aromatic plants, and some agricultural products, in addition to the participation of students and artists with a number of paintings.
The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, stated in a statement to reporters that the site of Al-Shalouq was chosen to host the central celebration because it was damaged by the 2020 fires, as this day, 10 thousand trees will be planted in the system of dirt pockets, in order to avoid the entry of mechanisms and their impact on its vegetation, forest and natural cover, while following the means Scientific in afforestation and cultivation of the site.
The Minister of Agriculture indicated that the tree festival celebration is part of a national campaign to plant forest trees, which began in October until next March.
Qattana mentioned that there are one and a half million trees that will be planted in afforestation sites with an area of 2,200 hectares, in addition to one and a half million forest plants that will be planted through campaigns with other parties, hoping that every citizen will express his love for his country and his family by planting a tree.
In turn, the governor of Tartous, Abdul Halim Awad Khalil, called on all the people, associations and activities in the governorate to take care of the trees and take care of them, and to cooperate with the agricultural departments to preserve them from burning, cutting and overgrazing, because of the environmental and aesthetic benefits they possess.
The Director of Tartous Agriculture, Eng. Ali Younes, stated that suitable forest species will be planted climatically and environmentally on an area of 10 hectares of the site, including pine and noble laurel, in addition to types of oaks, including common ones.
