After 30 days of Christmas market in Bad Tölz, the balance is record-breaking.

Even when the weather was bad, many stands made consistently good sales.

Bad Tölz – Roughly speaking, there were around 250,000 visitors who enjoyed mulled wine and bratwurst at the Tölz Christmas market during the Advent season.

After four weeks, the market is now over.

Susanne Frey-Allgaier, the city's deputy spa director, takes stock.

"It was a nail-biter," says Frey-Allgaier.

“On the one hand, we were happy that something could happen again after two years.

On the other hand, you didn't know: Do people spend money?” And two years off is a long time, according to the deputy spa director.

“We knew that people were excited about the market.

But we were still surprised at how well it was received.”

How the estimated number of visitors at the Christmas market is calculated

Estimated 250,000 visitors: That is an impressive number.

But how do you get this result?

"You have experience," explains the deputy spa director.

So you know how dense the Markstrasse is when there are a certain number of visitors.

And: “On the first Sunday in Advent we had 20,000 to 25,000 visitors.

The other Sundays were also almost as good, so you can extrapolate that.” In addition, the retailers, especially the catering stands, offer a clue.

"You can also infer it from their sales."

Is this crowd of visitors a record?

"In the past, even before the city organized the Christmas market, there was certainly something like that every now and then," says Frey-Allgaier.

“This year the market was well frequented throughout.” There was always something going on during the weekday evenings too.

"We also had many guests from outside Munich or tourists who came by bus," reports Frey-Allgaier.

“This is extremely important for us, also for stationary trade.

A town like Tölz thrives on things like that.”

Far away from the mulled wine prices in Munich

Neither the rain nor the cold stopped operations.

"The weather couldn't affect the operation of the gastro stands in particular," says the deputy spa director.

“We are glad that we were able to remain reasonably stable in terms of prices.

We are a long way from a mulled wine for 7 euros, without a deposit, as there is in Munich.”

The senior and family days, the carriage rides, the special events at the weekend and the children's program of the city museum were also very well received.

All in all, she has only heard positive things from the dealers, who have ensured that everything runs smoothly in the 35 or so stands.

"Everyone is very satisfied." And that's saying something, as Frey-Allgaier knows from experience.

"They don't usually say that right away."

Bad Tölz Christmas market: No extension this year

Because the stand operators are experiencing staffing problems, the stands will not remain open beyond December 24th.

A few years ago, a few stands were open until the end of the year.

"We tried again this year," explains Frey-Allgaier.

"It didn't fail because of us.

The traders were not ready to move on.

Many were happy that they found staff at all for the 30 days.”

As reported, however, on New Year's Eve, December 31, from 8 p.m. (Kurt Büttner) and from 9.30 p.m. (Bene Pizza and AWO Bad Tölz) three gastronomy huts in the lower Marktstraße will provide for the physical well-being.
