2022-12-29T08:38:59.430Z

During the past year, the IDF launched hundreds of weapons, attacked hundreds of targets, carried out dozens of campaign operations between wars and dozens of special operations • The Iranian nuclear program is the top priority of the IDF, while Judea and Samaria was also one of the main areas of the army's occupation • 2,672 Palestinians were arrested • 299 terrorist attacks Shooting and stabbing claimed the lives of 24 civilians and seven members of the security forces

Towards the end of the civil year, the IDF sums up the year:

during 2022, the IDF launched hundreds of weapons, attacked hundreds of targets, carried out dozens of air defense operations (Campaign between Wars, LS) and dozens of special operations.

During the year, dozens of cyber attacks were also thwarted, according to data released today (Thursday) by the IDF.

At the top of the IDF's priorities is, quite predictably, Iran. And the reference is not only to the Iranian nuclear program, which is difficult to know where it will develop in 2023, but also to Iran's regional establishment throughout the Middle East, and in Syria in particular. The IDF states that the preparedness towards Iran "Overall, good", but there is no doubt that the issue will continue to occupy the army in the near future as well.

Over the past year, the IDF has carried out dozens of attacks as part of the campaign between the wars. The Israeli operations are taking place mainly in Syria, but not only, with the aim of disrupting transfers of weapons to militias in Syria in order to prevent a terrorist organization similar to Hezbollah from being established on the Syrian border, as well as to prevent the transfer of weapons from Iran to Lebanon It should be emphasized that although the activity that is published is mainly that of the Air Force, in several cases fire was also used from the ground and actual ground operations were even carried out.

These operations are very complex, requiring precise intelligence and rigorous operational preparations.

In this context, the IDF notes that the year 2022 was very successful, and the Iranian entrenchment in Syria was significantly damaged.

The campaign between wars will of course continue next year, and the IDF will also have to prepare for the possibility that thanks to the tightening of relations between Iran and Russia, Israel's freedom of action on the northern front will be challenged. At the same time, it will be emphasized that there is currently no change in Israel's freedom of action in this regard, but on The security to make sure it will be preserved.

The scene in Lebanon is quiet at the moment, but let's recall that during the past year, Hezbollah launched an unmanned aerial vehicle towards the rigs.

During 2022, 34.5 kg of drugs were seized along the border, 239 weapons and one rocket was fired. In the context of the Lebanese arena, attention should be paid to the height friction between UNIFIL and Hezbollah.

The most difficult year in Israel since the second intifada

Fewer seizures of workshops, a drop in the seizure of terrorist funds, more (dramatically) shooting incidents compared to a decrease in stabbing incidents and a significant increase in grassroots terrorism - throwing stones and batsmen. This is how the most difficult year in Israel since the second intifada looks like, with in the background a fear of the intensification of incidents and Added to the security situation in the field.

The troubling issue from the point of view of the security establishment is the lack of governance of the Palestinian Authority.

The IDF's summary for 2022 shows that in the past year there were 285 shooting attacks compared to 61 last year, and 31 in 2020. On the other hand, there is a slight decrease in stabbing attacks, which were 14 last year compared to 18 last year and 9 in 2020. This confirms the assertion that this is a different kind of conflict than the ones we have experienced in the last 20 years.

This is the deadliest year in Judea and Samaria in at least the last 4 years: 31 Israelis were killed this year, 24 of them civilians, from IDF incidents, this compared to four in 2021, three in 2020 and five in 2019. The

IDF is well aware that the area Saturated with means of warfare and working to try and stop the phenomenon.

However, a look over several years proves that the writing was on the wall and the incident could have been somewhat prevented if they had acted in a better way earlier.

In the past year, 14 workshops for the production of ammunition were closed, this compared to only 9 last year, but in 2020, 50 such workshops were closed, which explains some of the means of warfare that reached Yosh.

This year, 493 weapons were seized in Yosh, most of them apparently in the operations of the Metilan unit, compared to 397 weapons last year.

For the purpose of comparison, in 2019, without a special operation, 603 weapons were seized in Yosh.

The IDF has significantly increased the defense of the Seam, and towards next year it is expected to request an increase in the number of reserve battalions it can recruit in order to continue to fulfill the mission. Another heavy burden on the reservists.

For that matter, today there are 16-17 MGB companies in IOSH, which if they leave, will be required to be replaced by four IDF battalions assuming that they will be replaced by reservists, multiply the number by 17.5, and get a recruitment of 70 battalions additional reserves during the next year, which should also impose a significant burden on the reserve personnel.

There is a significant decrease in the seizure of terrorist funds.

In 2021, 11 million shekels were seized, compared to 2.7 million shekels this year.

However, it should be said that in 2020 only 670 thousand shekels were seized.

The security establishment notes that although Gaza is quiet at the moment, it can always surprise, and they estimate that the Palestinian arena will continue to be a challenge, as well as internal security.
