Civil servants may be authorized to combine with their job
"a lucrative activity of driving a school transport vehicle or similar"
, according to a decree published Thursday in the Official Journal.
The measure was taken to overcome the
"difficulties in recruiting drivers"
which disrupt
"the proper functioning"
of school transport services
"as well as transport on demand organized for pupils and students with disabilities"
, specifies the decree.

The text signed by Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne as well as by the Ministers of Public Service Stanislas Guérini, Interior Gérald Darmanin, Ecological Transition Christophe Béchu and Health François Braun is an
"experimental device for a period of three years"
.
The agents of the three sides of the public service - State, communities and hospitals - will be able to work as bus drivers but will have to obtain for this
"prior and individual authorization from the public employer" to
which they belong, further details the decree.
The exercise of the activity of driver on an ancillary basis
"must not affect the normal functioning, independence or neutrality of the service to which the agent is assigned"
, also states the text.
