The Dominican justice system handed down sentences ranging from five to 30 years in prison for 10 of the 13 defendants for the attack against former Major League Baseball player David Ortiz, which occurred in June 2019 in a bar in Santo Domingo, as reported by the Attorney General's Office in a statement.
According to the informative note, the First Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo sentenced Eddy Vladimir Féliz García and Rolfi Ferreras Cruz or Ramón Martínez Pérez to 30 years in prison for their direct participation in the assassination attempt in which Ortiz received a stab wound. bullet that forced several surgeries in the Dominican Republic and the United States.

The court also handed down a 20-year prison term for Alberto Miguel Rodríguez Mota, found guilty of paying those who carried out the attack.
Seven other men received prison terms of between five and 10 years.
According to the authorities, and in accordance with the sentence handed down this Monday, those convicted must pay compensation equivalent to some US$ 890,000 and will serve their sentence in La Victoria prison, in Santo Domingo Norte.
The attack on Ortiz took place on June 9, 2019, when the former Boston Red Sox player was with some friends in a bar in East Santo Domingo.

Ortiz was attacked by two men who arrived on a motorcycle and shot at the people who were at the former baseball player's table.
After the action, the athlete fell seriously injured.
