From Eilat to Metula: the police are preparing for a large-scale operation during the New Year's celebrations Israel today

A special enforcement operation on the roads for the New Year:

the traffic department is preparing for the New Year's Eve celebrations that will be celebrated this weekend. The police officers will work in increased forces starting from the evening (Thursday) until Sunday morning.

Throughout the weekend, more than 950 police officers and hundreds of volunteers will work on the intercity roads from Eilat to Metula. Police officers and volunteers of the Traffic Division will focus on offenses that can cause traffic accidents - offenses of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving at excessive speed.

The wing is preparing to increase the seizure of vehicles of traffic offenders who will be caught committing repeated serious traffic offenses with the aim of confiscating the vehicles.

In addition, the military police officers will also work during the weekend together and alongside the traffic division officers in enforcement against military vehicles or soldiers who commit offenses. 

Meanwhile, today a ceremony was held to change the commander of the National Traffic Police of the Traffic Division.

The head of the Traffic Division, Superintendent Yehuda Ben Atar, noted that there is a decrease in the number of total accidents, and a 6% decrease in the number of serious accidents, despite the lack of 120 police officers in the division.

During the ceremony, he said: "In the past year, the National Traffic Police acted more against the offenses that cause traffic accidents and was more visible in the roads in accordance with the division's policy, and at the end of this year we recorded a 6% decrease in fatal accidents, 19 fewer fatal accidents, fewer deaths and more lives saved. And this despite The lack of police officers. We are making a great effort to fill the ranks and even increase the standards and the number of police officers in order to provide a better service to the citizens of Israel."
