Do you need fireworks on New Year's Eve?

In an FT poll, many citizens felt that fireworks were no longer in keeping with the times.

When it comes to New Year's fireworks, opinions differ every year.

In an online survey, the FT wanted to know whether fireworks are still up-to-date or not.

District

– After a two-year Corona break, rockets and firecrackers can be blown up again this year on New Year's Eve.

Today, three days before the turn of the year, the sale of fireworks starts.

While some take courage and spend a lot of money on pyrotechnic objects, others speak out against it - with regard to the environment, pets and small children or with a view to your own wallet.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

In a non-representative online survey, we asked our readers to vote on whether fireworks were needed on New Year's Eve.

29 percent of the 198 participants are convinced: “Yes!

This is tradition and simply part of it – also in the town centres”.

22 percent are of the opinion: “It depends on where.

Historical and sensitive areas are taboo.” 49 percent and thus the majority of the participants said very clearly: “No!

Fireworks just aren't up-to-date anymore."

Three years ago, in December 2019, FT readers had already voted on this topic.

At that time, 40.02 percent were in favor of fireworks, 35.37 percent were against it, and 24.61 percent said historical and sensitive areas were taboo.

No fireworks in the inner cities

Even if firecrackers and rockets are allowed again this year on New Year's Eve: the city of Freising and the city of Moosburg have imposed a ban on fireworks in the center.

The reason is preventive fire protection.

In any case, the burning of pyrotechnic objects in the immediate vicinity of churches, hospitals, children's and old people's homes as well as particularly fire-sensitive buildings and systems is prohibited.

Those who refuse to do so face severe fines.
