A court in Iran sentenced the writer and journalist Mehdi Bahman to death after he was convicted of spying for Israel, following an interview with News 13 in October.
Bahman was arrested during a demonstration that month and tried for espionage and treason, a crime punishable by death in the country.
According to reports in the opposition-affiliated media, Bahman was held in Ward 203 of Air Prison, a ward designated for security prisoners in the notorious prison in Tehran.
Those who reported the decision were human rights organizations inside Iran and media outlets affiliated with the opposition in the country.
The authorities in Iran have not yet responded to the news of his conviction, and may refrain from doing so for a long time.
In a publication by the Committee to Monitor the Status of Detainees, a human rights organization that holds activists in Iran, it is written: "The accusation of Bahman's espionage and the claim that he passed information to Israel is completely false and delusional. He had no access to any information and secrets and had nothing to do with Israel. He He spoke to the Israeli media only about the protest in Iran."
