After two years of the corona pandemic and more than 150,000 vaccinations, the Freising vaccination center is closing its doors forever.

District Administrator Helmut Petz thanks all helpers.

Freising

– The lights go out in the Freising vaccination center on December 30: After two years of the corona pandemic and more than 150,000 vaccinations, the vaccination center in the former staff building will be officially closed – in accordance with the requirements of the Bavarian state government.

In the future, medical practices and pharmacies will carry out the corona vaccinations.

According to virologist Christian Drosten, the corona pandemic is over, as he said just a few days ago.

Vaccination is "the light at the end of the tunnel", District Administrator Helmut Petz said almost two years ago, when the vaccination center was set up in the converted rooms of the former staff building of the stone barracks and completed on time on the specified date of December 15, 2020.

The vaccination campaign in the district did not start in the vaccination center itself, but on December 27, 2020 in the senior center in Zolling: 52 residents and 23 employees were vaccinated there.

The vaccination center itself began operations on January 9, 2021.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

In the first few months, the vaccine was administered according to a strict prioritization - hard bandages were sometimes fought for an appointment.

From February 22nd, the number of vaccinations in the vaccination center increased: the previous target of 350 vaccinations per day was increased to 500.

The district of Freising did everything possible to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

Many special vaccination campaigns have been started.

Around March 2021 for around 2400 educators, nannies and primary school teachers in the Gute Änger secondary school in Freising and a spontaneous campaign in Zolling for members of rescue organizations, fire brigades, THW and water rescue services.

Over 150,000 vaccinations have been administered at the vaccination center in the past two years.

The vaccination center received reinforcements at the end of March 2021: Vaccination against Corona was also started in the medical practices.

On April 12, 2021, a second corona vaccination center was put into operation in the district of Freising: In the Au branch office - in the former practice of Dr.

Anton Freilinger - up to 100 people were vaccinated daily.

The many volunteers and full-time employees of the vaccination center worked tirelessly - in the meantime supported by forces of the Bundeswehr.

After the first and second vaccinations, boosters were also allowed from November 2021 - the vaccination campaign in the district, which had had a slack in the meantime, picked up speed again.

BRK and Johanniter had to suffer a bitter defeat in April: after a Germany-wide tender, the vaccination center got a new operator with the company Ecolog, which has its German headquarters in Düsseldorf and its headquarters in Dubai.

The last vaccination day for the two aid organizations took place on April 23, 2022, and Ecolog took over on May 1.

District Administrator thanks helpers

"I would like to thank the BRK and the Johanniter again, who ran the vaccination center for the district until the end of April.

And I would also like to thank the company Ecolog for the work over the past eight months," said District Administrator Helmut Petz when asked by FT.

“Vaccinations were the light at the end of the tunnel during the pandemic.

Everyone involved has done great things over the past two years to give the citizens of the district the best possible protection against the corona virus.
