The preparations for the Schongau "Ice Fairy Tale" are underway.

After the Christmas holidays, a five by ten meter track will be set up at Marienplatz - appointments can already be made.

Schongau – The next building block for the “winter revitalization” at Marienplatz will come in January: a mini ice rink made of plastic will be set up south of the Marienbrunnen for the period from January 14 to February 11 under the motto “Ice”.

You don't need ice and cold temperatures to lace up your skates.

The building yard must first create a substructure

However, the preparations are initially quite time-consuming, as Tina Birke, site promoter of the city of Schongau, explains.

The building yard has to create a substructure, a flat level so that the individual modules can be plugged together easily.

But everything can be reused - and is theoretically expandable for the future.

In any case, the Schongau ice skating department was immediately hooked on the idea, says Birke: “Max Becher has put together a team and there is a month-long program,” says the site promoter happily.

There should be something on offer on Thursdays (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Saturdays (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) during business hours.

Starting on Saturday, January 14th, and the two following Thursdays, there will be a goal wall shootout.

Goal wall shooting and speed shooting planned

A final for the best shooters at the end of January is also planned, and that even in the ice rink on Lechuferstraße.

The first two Thursdays in February there is then a speed shooting.

Individual appointments during the weekday afternoon can also be arranged – for example for school classes, kindergartens, clubs or company groups.

Contact person is also Max Becher.

Because the visitors can access the rental equipment that is otherwise available in the ice rink for the Sunday ice school, it is easier to know who is coming.

"Because I don't even need to take the 25 and 30 ice skates with me for the company event," says Becher.

In return, one could probably do without the men's sizes in the kindergarten group.

You can also stop by spontaneously - signs with rules of conduct will be set up

"Anyone who has everything is welcome to stop by spontaneously," says Becher.

And you don't have to stick to the times of EA Schongau, as Birke explains.

Everyone enters the area at their own risk.

"We have contacted the city of Penzberg - there will be rules of conduct, signs will be put up." It shouldn't be too fast on the 50 square meter area anyway, because you might have to reckon with minor friction losses on the runners, says Becher winking.

And too many people can't be on the floor at the same time.

"It gets cozy for ten or more people," says Becher.

The pyramid at Marienplatz remains standing, you can get drinks

Perhaps an additional magnet: the pyramid at Marienplatz will remain in place for the entire time that the ice surface is set up, so you can stock up on a hot drink.

The association also gets two stalls for material.

In addition, two benches will be set up so that you can comfortably put on your ice skates.

The “Ice Fairy Tale” will then be dismantled in time for the final spurt of carnival, because Marienplatz must be free again by then.

As reported, the city was able to purchase the used system from a Swiss manufacturer at a reasonable price.

The campaign is funded by the program "Invigorate Inner Cities".

Purchase price: around 12,000 euros.

The winter revitalization of Schongau's old town started in November under the motto "Light".

And at the first SOGood weekend in November, there was a very special light installation that attracted a lot of people.
