Today, Aleppo Governorate celebrated the 71st Tree Day, by organizing a campaign of afforestation and planting of 2,000 forest saplings of cypress and pine, on an area of about 2.5 hectares on the road to Aleppo International Airport, east of the city.
A member of the Executive Office of the Provincial Council, Eng. Abdeen Issa, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that this campaign comes within a plan approved by Aleppo Governorate, to increase green spaces and preserve the vegetation cover that was damaged during the past years as a result of terrorism, noting the importance of celebrating the Tree Festival under the title “Let's plant for a green future.” ".
The Director of Aleppo Agriculture, Eng. Radwan Harsouni, stated that the afforestation campaign continues, in implementation of the Ministry of Agriculture's plan to rehabilitate damaged sites and expand vegetation, including the airport road, which was rehabilitated through the participation of the local community and students of institutes and universities.
The plan of the Forestry Department in the Directorate of Agriculture, according to Hasrouni, includes the production of 175,000 seedlings of pine, protea, cypress, thuja, sumac, oleander, laurel, linden and palm trees, in addition to implementing the industrial reforestation plan by cultivating 150 hectares at the Lake al-Assad site.
The head of the Farmers Union branch in Aleppo, Ahmed Kalleh Khairy, pointed out that farmers continue to plant fruit and forest trees, which embody the farmer's relationship with his land and his attachment to it and benefit from its bounties, stressing the union's support for farmers and encouraging them to plant trees that contribute to modifying the climate and increasing green spaces.
