16 hours before his driving ban expired, a 19-year-old from Munich got into a pickup truck and drove on the Autobahn in the direction of Salzburg.

Since he was using his cell phone, the highway police stopped him - and noticed the driving ban.

Weyarn

- Did the young man from Munich know what he was threatened with when a patrol from the Holzkirchen motorway police asked him to check in on Wednesday morning (December 28) near Weyarn?

The officials noticed him because he was busy with his cell phone at the wheel for a long time.

As it turned out, he had also committed a more serious offense.

He was behind the wheel, although he was still banned from driving that day.

According to the highway police, the 19-year-old, a Bosnian living in Munich, was traveling towards Salzburg in a Mercedes van around 8:20 a.m.

Between Holzkirchen and Weyarn, a patrol crew noticed him because he was busy using his mobile phone.

According to the police report, he was so distracted that he didn't even notice the approaching police vehicle at first.

The control then took place at the Weyarn junction.

The 19-year-old showed his driver's license, which had been mailed to him a few days earlier.

His driver's license was revoked for a month because he ran a red light.

Presumably the 19-year-old hadn't read the "fine print".

Because the driving ban was in effect up to and including December 28th and would only have expired on December 29th (midnight).

The man must have overlooked the condition that the driver's license sent to him should not be used until after the deadline had expired.

"Since the driver's license usually arrives at home shortly before the end of the driving ban, it is worth reading the letter carefully," says the police press report.

The officials had no choice but to report the young man for driving despite the driving ban.

It is a criminal offense and the case is now with the public prosecutor.

In addition, there is the administrative offense for using a mobile phone while driving.

The fine for this amounts to 100 euros (plus one point in the traffic offender file in Flensburg).

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Holzkirchen newsletter.
