Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced today that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in St. Petersburg recently, discussed the situation in Karabakh in detail.
In response to a question about how the Kremlin evaluates Pashinyan's statements in which he said that Russia should initiate consideration in the UN Security Council of assigning a Russian peacekeeping unit with a mandate from the Security Council or sending it to an additional multinational peacekeeping unit to Karabakh, Peskov said: Russia continues its mediation efforts to fulfill first and foremost the agreements reached during the Trilateral Summit.
Peskov added: The issue of the Lachin corridor was already discussed in great detail in St. Petersburg between Putin and Pashinyan, and talks on this topic will continue.
Putin indicated during his meeting with Pashinyan in St. Petersburg the day before yesterday that the economic situation in the relations between Russia and Armenia is developing very positively, but the main issue is the settlement of the situation in the South Caucasus as a whole, the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and everything related to the Karabakh region.
On the other hand, Peskov said: The Russian president will discuss with Chinese President Xi Jingping, through closed-door contacts, tomorrow, bilateral relations and regional problems, in addition to other common issues.
