At some point it just ends.

So it's now time for two long-time fans of the green market in Miesbach to say goodbye - and that's not easy.

Irmgard Kern, who has her nursery in Schechen near Rosenheim, was one of the regulars at the weekly market for 38 years with her own fruit and vegetables.

At the end of November, she closed this chapter.

Her way to the official farewell by Miesbach's mayor Gerhard Braunmiller led her back through the well-known rows of stands.

She met many former colleagues, and many people greeted and spoke to her.

"It's difficult," says the Standlfrau.

“Totally in love with the marketplace the first time”

The memories come right back.

"I fell in love with the marketplace the first time I saw it," she says.

Just the smell of bread and pretzels at the Grabmaier bakery, the market flair.

The market woman has taken all of this to her heart.

The fact that she is now stopping is due to her age, explains the 65-year-old.

Above all, however, the fact that “as a garden center we can no longer find workers.

It's all done by hand - all year round."

Alois Dimpflmaier, who has been going to Miesbach regularly with his wife Andrea for over 30 years to offer spices, tea blends and seeds there, also stops in Miesbach.

He only wants to go to Sunday markets, says the 59-year-old.

The master gardener from Roßhart near Wasserburg was forced to include his vegetables in the range, he now reveals: "You can get by with spices for a long time." No promising prerequisites for good customer frequency.

The city of Miesbach says thank you

Braunmiller thanked the two Fierantes on behalf of the city: "People like you make our market special," he stated.

In wind and weather both were here.

"Thank you for coming." Meanwhile, the city is still looking for suitable successors.

It's good to be asked

What Dimpflmaier particularly likes about Miesbach is the importance that the market and its fairgrounds enjoy in the town.

"People did a great job on our behalf and let us have a say." As an example, he cites the green sidewalk that was laid out as part of the redesign of the market square.

"That's not a matter of course," emphasizes Dimpflmaier, who gets around a lot with his stand.

And not only that: “The country audience makes Miesbach special.

People want to know where the goods come from and are happy to accept tips.” With Miesbach, he is missing something.

"I really enjoyed going there."

There is one more reunion

But it is not a goodbye forever for both Fierantes.

Alois Dimpflmaier wants to be there at the Lenten Market (March 25/26) and Michaelmas Market (September 23/24).

And Irmgard Kern will also come back to Miesbach, probably at the end of April/beginning of May - but not with fruit and vegetables, but with cuttings from our own breeding.
