Jean-Marc Jancovici's album devoted to global warming goes far beyond Joël Dicker, Pierre Lemaître or Goncourt Brigitte Giraud.

He surpassed regulars on the catwalks and sales by the hundreds of thousands.

This year, polytechnician and energy specialist Jean-Marc Jancovici, co-author with Christophe Blain of the comic strip

Le Monde sans fin

, has risen to the top of the best sellers of 2022. The album has sold 514,000 copies.

It is followed by

L'Affaire Alaska Sanders

by Joël Dicker (432,000 copies sold by his own publishing house, Rosie & Wolfe) and Le

Grand monde - Les Années glorieuses

by Pierre Lemaître (335,000 copies), which will be released in early January following

Silence and Anger

.

As for literary prizes, the Goncourt is a small vintage (198,000 copies sold for

Vivre vite

by Brigitte Giraud at Flammarion, against an average of more than 500,000 copies in general for this prize), largely exceeded this year by the prize of the French Academy ,

Le Mage du Kremlin

by Giuliano Da Empoli (Gallimard, more than 320,000 sales).

The comic book

Le Monde sans fin

explains the intricacies of global warming;

she had greatly pleased the Figaro.

"Metaphors, colorful graphics, drawings, everything is done to provide the reader with precise facts at the same time as a synthetic view of things,

wrote Astrid de Larminat in 2021.

First, the authors trace the history of energies fossils, show how they have changed our lives, dissect the economic functioning of industrial societies.

They then explain global warming and its chain consequences.

It is difficult to account here for the multitude of details that make up the overall picture.

“The 50 best-selling books in 2022 generated 11.7 million copies, down 9% compared to the exceptional year 2021, but still above the level of sales in 2020 and 2019”,

underlined Gfk in a press release, noting the continued progress of comics and manga.

Already in 2021, another comic had risen to the top of the bestseller charts.

Asterix and the Griffin

, by JY Ferri and D. Conrad (ed. Albert René) topped sales with more than 1.5 million copies sold, followed closely by Hervé Le Tellier and his Goncourt prize,

L' Anomaly

, and

Life is a novel

by Guillaume Musso.
