The year 2022 was marked by an active theatrical movement in various governorates. Throughout the year, it presented a number of theatrical performances whose contents and topics varied, and crossed borders and presented various performances locally and in the Arab world. A number of Syrian stars were also honored in Arab cultural forums.
And the beginning of the Damascene theater, where the Al-Hamra theater stage witnessed the presentation of the first Arab performances in the current year after an absence of years from the Syrian theaters through the Al-Dan Theater for Omani Culture and Art, which presented the theatrical show for a living.
The Directorate of Theaters and Music in the Ministry of Culture has diversified its activities since the beginning of 2022, as it celebrated the Arab Theater Day by presenting a group of performances in Damascus, Hama, Tartous, Al-Hasakah, and Sweida, and launching the Art Gardens project by presenting theatrical performances and musical evenings in many public parks in the governorates, in addition to To present various performances throughout the year at Al Azem Palace, including dance theater groups.
The Directorate announced the results of the young theatrical text competition directed to adults and children, and it comes within the plan of the Ministry of Culture to activate the cultural movement and encourage writers to present new texts to activate the theatrical movement and allow the discovery of new talents in writing theatrical text. ) by Muhammad Hammoud, and the text of the play (Gift of Blood) by Raed al-Hallaq won the second place. As for the texts directed to children, the text of the play (Qamar) by Muhammad Hammoud won the first place, and the second place was the text of the play (Sanjouba with the ears of Arnouba) by Duha Jawad.
Theaters in the city of Damascus hosted important performances, most notably “Chirling” by Rawa’a Sonbol, directed by Ajaj Selim on the stage of Al-Hamra Theatre. The Creativity Forum, hosted by the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, had a remarkable presence, as it included meetings with the great theater stars who had their mark in the theatrical movement, most notably the able artist Mona Wasef, the able artist Asaad Fadda, the distinguished artist Ghassan Massoud, and the two stars Tim Hassan and Abdel Moneim Amairi and director Osama Al Romani .
And in the Arab world, (Sharjah Forum for theatrical pioneers) hosted a group of outstanding students at the Syrian Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts within the framework of the ninth session of the Kalba Short Plays Festival.
The text “Objects of Light” won three prizes at the University Theater-Homs at the Hussein Bouziane International Forum for University Theater-Tunisia for Best Direction by Hussein Naser, Best Actor Stephane Barchini and Best Actress Alissar Esber.
And on the International Theater Day, which the world celebrates on the 27th of March, the Syrian theater shone in the Arab forums, to be embodied this year in honoring the distinguished artist Asaad Fadda within the 31st session of the Sharjah Theater Days, and in presenting the theatrical performance (performance) by the writer and director Samer Muhammad Ismail Ali. The stage of Al-Shams Theater in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and on the stage of Al-Madina Theater in Beirut, within the Meshkal Theater Festival.
Within the framework of the Youth Theater Support Project, “Radio” performances included a text by Ken Saro directed by Mahmoud Abdel-Baqi (Hama) and the play “360 Percent” by Muhammad Mulqi.
The Directorate of Theaters and Music held several theatrical festivals, such as the Monodrama Festival and Al-Maghout in Hama, the Tartous Amateur Theater Festival, the Elissar Theater Festival in Lattakia, the University Theater Festival in the city of Homs, the Aleppo Theater Festival, and the As-Suwayda Theater Festival.
