In Tölz there will be a professional fireworks display again this year.

The fire brigade has safety tips ready for anyone who wants to make a firecracker themselves.

But where are there rockets and co.?

Bad Tölz – For many, rockets and firecrackers are part of New Year's Eve, while for others "Dinner for One" or Raclette.

After a two-year forced break, the city fireworks are also taking place again in the spa town at the Isar Bridge.

The city also wants to achieve that fewer private individuals bang.

Professional fireworks in Tölz so that fewer people fire

"The intention behind this is that everyone who comes and enjoys the professional fireworks does not necessarily buy rockets themselves," explains Susanne Frey-Allgaier, the city's deputy spa director.

Particulate matter is also caused by the fireworks organized by the city, she concedes.

"But it's better to have something big than the entire bridge over the Isar being filled with rubbish and smoke.

We are happy for everyone we prevent from banging themselves.

Let's see how we can do that." Of course, this is only a recommendation, because "it can't be banned," says Frey-Allgaier.

However, there are still prohibited zones in the spa town, in which firecrackers are not permitted.

Laser show no alternative to fireworks

Holding a laser show on New Year's Eve has already been discussed in the past.

However, the fireworks were chosen again because "a laser show is not without controversy," explains the deputy spa director, referring to the topic of "light pollution".

In addition, you would have to spend a lot more money for a laser show in order to be able to offer a similarly spectacular performance as with fireworks.

"That would simply be much more expensive." The Ströbel company, with which the city has been working for years, is responsible for the fireworks this year as well.

"It's hard to find any fireworks at all," explains Frey-Allgaier.

Because they too would have to struggle with staff shortages.

Frey-Allgaier is not sure whether there will still be fireworks on New Year's Eve in the future.

"There's a lot going on at the moment," she says.

"It's still part of it, but you don't know if it will be like that next year."

Buying fireworks: pay attention to the labeling

If you want to fire up the New Year yourself, Stefan Kießkalt, spokesman for the District Fire Inspectorate, has tips for a safe New Year's Eve.

There are a few things to consider when purchasing.

A registration number and the CE mark in connection with the test center must be present on the articles.

The category is also indicated on the fireworks, explains Kießkalt.

For example, the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing has the identification number 0589, followed by the category, for example F2, and then a registration number.

Illegal fireworks can be dangerous

You should keep your hands off illegal fireworks.

"These have not been tested according to the requirements," explains Kießkalt.

"They can have a shorter fuse, the explosives content can be higher, which can seriously endanger people in the vicinity." This also means there is an increased risk of fire.

And he warns: “Never make your own fireworks.

That always leads to serious accidents.”

Keep sufficient distance from people and buildings

In general, when setting off fireworks, you should ensure a safety distance of around ten meters from people and buildings.

"Under no circumstances should fireworks and firecrackers be thrown close to people," said the spokesman for the district fire inspection.

"After lighting, throw away the firecrackers immediately to avoid uncontrolled banging in your hand." Rockets should always be detonated away from buildings.

"Light the rockets in an empty water bottle in a carrier so that they don't tip over," explains Kießkalt.

In addition, you should, especially if you are not at home on New Year's Eve, close windows and blinds and remove flammable objects from the balcony.

Don't relight duds

And what to do if it doesn't bang?

"Just leave duds lying around and don't light them again," advises Kießkalt.

“Except for the firework batteries that have a second permanent fuse.

Otherwise the fireworks could be released suddenly, which could lead to injuries.”

Hagebaumarkt at Moraltpark will not be selling fireworks this year

Incidentally, the Hagebaumarkt at Moraltpark will not be selling any fireworks this year.

"We assumed that many other stores also sell fireworks and wanted to avoid waste, so we decided against it," explains Marc Held, deputy store manager.

But what you can buy there are confetti cannons.

Edeka March Managing Director: "Will be a surprise package"

The situation is different at Edeka März with locations in Bad Tölz and Ascholding.

"We're selling fireworks again this year," says managing director Florian Nöscher.

How will things go after two years of sales ban?

"It will be a surprise package," says Nöscher, laughing.

"Many may have gotten completely away from the fireworks, others are all the happier that it's possible again this year."
