The military junta has sentenced Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi to an additional prison term after she was charged with five counts of corruption, following the alleged use of state funds to purchase and lease a helicopter.

Aung San Suu Kyi was tried this morning (Friday) behind closed doors as part of a campaign by the military authorities who seized power by force in February 2021. In December of last year, the Myanmar court filed several indictments against the former leader of the country, among other things for incitement and violation of the Corona provisions .

The coup is one of many in a series of upheavals in Myanmar, or Burma as it was formerly known.
The military sect arrested then democratically elected leader Suu Kyi on the transparent pretext of flimsy criminal charges.
