That's when it started, it's over for today: Beate Faus, head of the vaccination center in Hausham, now has to organize the dismantling of the facility.

It should be completed by the end of January.

The vaccination center in Hausham is closing this Friday.

Director Beate Faus looks back on turbulent times.

Miesbach/Hausham – Four more hours today, then it's over at the vaccination center in Hausham.

A few vaccine doses may be added to the 117,193 administered so far, and then two moving and exciting years will end for Beate Faus.

She was - and still is - the head of the allocation office at the district office and was then entrusted with the management of the vaccination center.

When she locks the rooms in the former car dealership at 8 p.m. today, only administrative tasks remain.

At the end of January, when the lease expires, there should be no more reminders of the vaccination center.

Everything has to go that the district office installed.

"We drew walls, installed the electrics, built the tunnel at the entrance and built bicycle stands," recalls Faus.

The files that are still in Hausham must also be stored.

Strain the requirements of the authorities

The changes came gradually.

"Initially there weren't even any toilets," reports Faus with a grin.

Reacting to the ever-changing situations was the particular challenge.

Structural changes were one thing, almost easier to manage.

It was more strenuous to meet the requirements of the higher authorities.

Regulations that are to apply from Monday were often announced late on Friday evening, which caused displeasure not only in the Miesbach district office.

The IT provided also only worked with a significant delay.

In retrospect, Faus would have wished for better guidance.

"We felt like an event agency." But there was no blueprint for a pandemic of this magnitude.

"We managed it because we were such a great team."

130 to 150 employees in two years

The core of these teams was made up of Faus Thomas Straßmüller and Miriam Schrön from the medical side and from the side of the Bavarian Red Cross, which took over the administrative part, first Simon Horst and then Elisabeth Proisl.

There was also a circle of around 30 permanent doctors and numerous BRK employees, both permanent and honorary.

Faus estimates that 130 to 150 men and women worked at the vaccination center over the two years.

Almost forgotten again: Astrazeneca trouble and prioritization

The ever-changing challenges also included political requirements.

Just remember the changing recommendations on the vaccines, especially Astrazeneca, vaccine shortages and the prioritization of groups of people.

Faus admits that it was sometimes difficult as a human being.

Nevertheless, she enjoyed the work – having to act and react quickly and having the freedom to do so.

And looking back, she wouldn't have done much differently.

"We have always considered whether we need to expand or change location," reports Faus.

Ultimately, however, it was right to stay in Hausham.

Minor problems that arose were usually fixed quickly.

Not to forget: the opening times had to be adjusted to the demand again and again.

Throughout her time, she has always been able to speak to critics on a factual level.

And so only positive impressions remain with Faus, in particular the "great cooperation with everyone who was involved".

The patients also gave a lot back to the vaccination team.

"Everything was fine in the end," says Faus.
