A doner kebab for 10 euros makes a snack bar in Frankfurt known all over Germany overnight.

According to the owner, inflation left him no choice.

Frankfurt – Within a few days, it was clear to everyone in Hesse: the effects of the Ukraine war will also be felt here.

Almost a year after the first attacks by Russian forces on Ukraine, the consequences are clearly felt in everyday life.

Tens of thousands of people fled from the war in their homeland and also found refuge in Hesse.

Raw materials rose enormously in price and were sometimes extremely difficult to obtain.

One industry that slid from the Corona problem into the next crisis almost overnight was gastronomy.

Inflation once again posed the existential question for restaurants, bars and cafés, reports fnp.de.

Frankfurt: 10-euro kebab in response to inflation

At first, the biggest concern was that fries could disappear from the menus in Hesse.

In the course of the war, many shops adjusted their prices significantly upwards in order to still be able to pay electricity and heating costs.

But at the same time, consumers became more frugal and cautious about their spending.

A restaurant in Hesse reported almost weekly: "We're closing!"

A particularly drastic reaction in Frankfurt then made headlines across Germany in October.

The Ton Bul Grill and Kebap house is now selling the doner kebab for 10 euros.

An unprecedented price increase.

“The framework conditions on the meat and raw materials market have worsened significantly in recent years.

So that we can continue to bake delicious doner kebabs and oven-fresh products for our customers, we are adjusting our prices," said owner Ugor Yumusakbas and made it clear.

"It's not about the money, it's about survival."

Frankfurt: 10-euro kebab causes different discussions

The restaurateur had significantly increased the awareness of his shop near the Zeil overnight.

YouTubers came to his snack bar to try the 10-euro doner kebab.

Opinions differed about the high price of a doner kebab in Frankfurt.

Regulars would have no problem paying more, according to Yumusakbas.

Customers would continue to appreciate the quality of his doner kebab.

In line with this, a user wrote on Facebook: “Anyone else who is bothered by this should eat bread at home.

Fresh ingredients, fresh bread and lots of sauces to choose from.

The staff are very warm and friendly.

Tastes unusually good, can only be recommended!”.

Frankfurt: 10-euro kebab "really outrageous"

Another user, on the other hand, has little understanding.

In addition to quite clear opinions (“pure rip-off”), a Facebook user wrote: “No question, the kebab is awesome!

Better than any I've eaten before.

Still, 10 euros for a doner kebab is more than inappropriate.

7 euros was above average, but 10 euros is really outrageous!”

Despite the bitter seriousness that resonates in this debate about the 10-euro doner kebab, there was also a small amount of humor to be found.

The satirical party "The Party" called for a kebab price brake.

Although this has not happened so far, no other snack bar in Germany has exceeded the 10 euro mark for a doner kebab.
