Two years ago, the first Bavarians were vaccinated against Corona.
From January 1, 2023, medical practices and pharmacies will take over the vaccination.
All vaccination centers close.
A balance sheet.
Munich/Kempten – A prick that saves lives: 29 million corona vaccinations have been carried out in Bavaria since the pandemic began – 14.3 million of them in vaccination centers or by mobile vaccination teams.
"With their commitment, it was possible to offer the vaccinations in all regions of Bavaria," said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) on Thursday in Kempten in the Allgäu.
Shortly before it closed, he visited the vaccination center there and took stock.
Because: From January 1, 2023 it will be over, all vaccination centers in Bavaria will close.
Then only family and specialist practices, company doctors and pharmacies vaccinate.
"At peak times there were 100 vaccination centers in Bavaria," said Holetschek.
"Most recently, around 80 vaccination centers and branch offices with mobile teams were still active, supplementing the standard care."
Corona balance in Bavaria: 29 million vaccinations in two years
Two years ago, on Boxing Day 2020, the Free State was allocated the first 9,750 vaccine doses.
The vaccination campaign was launched in a retirement home in Germering (district of Fürstenfeldbruck).
"Back then, the vaccination centers had to be built out of the ground in no time at all and mobile teams had to be formed quickly," said Holetschek.
A tour de force for them, the municipalities, rescue workers and, above all, aid organizations such as the Bavarian Red Cross or Johanniter.
The commitment of thousands of volunteers and full-time employees was crucial.
"At peak times, we had more than 1,500 full-time and 400 volunteers on duty every week," said Angelika Schorer, President of the BRK during the visit of the Minister of Health in Kempten.
Especially at the beginning, those responsible faced major challenges: the vaccine was in short supply and had to be allocated according to priority.
It went first to the groups that would have been most at risk if infected.
"It was also important that we could vaccinate medical and nursing staff quickly," said Holetschek.
From June 2021 there was no more prioritization.
Bavaria: when the demand for vaccinations in Bavaria was highest
The centers gave 1.7 million vaccinations from September to November 2021 alone - including the first boosters, i.e. third-party vaccinations.
According to Holetschek, demand was highest in December 2021 with more than 1.7 million vaccinations.
From February 2022, demand fell but remained stable at a lower level.
For the operation of the vaccination centers and mobile teams, the Free State has reported costs of around 1.2 billion euros to the federal government for the period from November 2020 to the end of June 2022, the Ministry of Health has now announced.
The federal government pays half.
The Robert Koch Institute lists how the almost 29 million corona vaccinations administered are distributed: Over 9.9 million people have been vaccinated at least once.
Almost as many are basic immunized.
The first booster vaccination was given to 7.8 million people in Bavaria, the second to over 1.5 million people.
99,115 people have now been vaccinated a fifth time and 4,336 people a sixth time.
