Danny Danon is disappointed: "There is a feeling that the partners ran over us in the negotiations" | Israel Hayom

MK Danon in criticism of the division of cases in Likud: "They did not look at a place in the primaries or seniority" • On the management of the coalition negotiations: "The partners behaved predatorily" • On the future: "I will run for Likud leadership the day after Netanyahu"

After returning from a long stay abroad as Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, running in the Likud primaries and reaching 14th place in the primaries - MK Danny Danon's comeback ends, as of now, in that he decided to stay out of the government.

This, after he wanted to serve as Speaker of the Knesset, While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered him the portfolio of intelligence or regional cooperation.

In an interview with Israel Hayom, Danon criticizes the conduct of the negotiations and the concessions made by the Likud to the partnership demand, and declares: "I support Netanyahu, I am preparing to run for Likud leadership the day after."

Why didn't you enter the government?

"I appreciate Netanyahu's proposal. I came to do and act after a long stay at the UN, honors are less important to me.

There are some made-up offices that shouldn't be, like wings that used to be in other offices.

I was offered the intelligence file, but I see no importance in such a file.

There is a car and helpers - but no authority.

You are in fact an advisory body to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I don't think there is any value in being an advisory body in the government."

Did you try to convince Netanyahu that you deserve another case?

"I told him clearly - according to all the parameters according to which you are supposed to distribute cases, I am in a good place. If it is seniority - this is my fourth Knesset, I was a minister and ambassador to the United Nations;

And if it's a place on the list - I should be in a better place there too.

But he found himself in a situation where he has no room for maneuver, and the reason is that the negotiations were problematic to say the least."

Are you angry, disappointed?

"I'm not angry. I'm disappointed with the result, of course. Everyone wants to move forward, act and do things, but I've proven in the past that I'm active in the places I reach. In the first term, you were the chairman of a committee for the rights of the child, which no one wanted, and after that I was elected 5th in the primaries, So I believe in my abilities."

Netanyahu failed in the negotiations?

"I think the result is problematic. We didn't get what we should have gotten, and they got too much. And in our cases, like in education and transportation, ambassadors came and bit them - it was excessive and piggish. Why should another party make diplomatic appointments in the Foreign Ministry? Why take a wing from the Ministry of Transportation and transfer it to the Ministry of the Interior, who are still working for millions of shekels against the partnership?

"And there is another matter - the partners did not treat the Likud in a respectful manner. The feeling was that they came in a forceful manner and ran over them. Their requests were excessive. If the Likud wants the coalition to succeed, they have to take the reins. The situation created due to the lack of cases hurts not only the Likud, but also the state. Take the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an example: the two ministers are worthy, but these rotations, where someone enters the ministry and then leaves after a year and returns again after two years - this will harm functioning in the long term."

"Netanyahu and I know how to work together"

Why did Netanyahu agree to this?

He was blackmailed, is he weak?

"I don't think he is weak. They came with a great appetite that must stop, they took advantage of the situation where we have no alternative. There was room to tell them to stop as well, and see if they won't vote for the government. Their demands within the Likud files are crossing a line. It is not for State. When a Likud minister comes in, why does he need another minister as a kosher overseer from another party, who takes away his powers?"

But why do you think Netanyahu didn't put an end to it?

"He wanted to form a government, and we all welcome a right-wing government. What stands before his eyes is more peace agreements, Iran and these issues."

Levine didn't manage it well?

acted in the best interest of his people?

"I don't know who these 'people' are, Bitan said this claim. If I were the chairman of the movement I would establish a wider team, with more players who have another point of view.

I would isolate the Prime Minister, who only goes to him if arbitration is needed. I think the Prime Minister should have been put a step above the negotiating team."

Are there unworthy people who got positions because they flattered Netanyahu?

"The question is according to what roles are given. In the end it's his personal decision. According to who he feels closer to, the loyalty he sees. We did many great things together that have not been published until today. We know how to work together, but I haven't been around him in the last year and a half. Ron Dermer (appointed Minister of Strategic Affairs, AA), who was not elected in the primaries - in my eyes, this is improper.

If almost 30,000 people elected me and others, they should be given priority in positions, because in practice the Prime Minister also draws his power from the incumbents."

The disappointed in Likud

MK Danon joins the ranks of the disillusioned in Likud, who decided for the most part not to join the government. This is an old and experienced group, which also includes David Amsalem, David Bitan and Yuli Edelstein. Each of them has already proven that they have opinions, that they are independent, and above all - that they are not afraid of Netanyahu .

At the beginning, those around Netanyahu marked Israel Katz as the leader of the group, and feared a bloc that might be an opposition to Netanyahu. Now, after Katz joined the government and agreed to a compromise according to which he would serve in rotation with Eli Cohen in the Foreign Ministry - some Likud members see this as a folding of Katz , who lost points in their eyes. Danon, by insisting on staying out, can build his position as one of the leaders of the group and establish his power in Likud.

Isn't it ridiculous to demand a senior portfolio and then be left out, after being the Minister of Science a few years ago?

"I think I do take the long way. People who look at the substance, not the appearance, should be appreciated. I know the systems here, I grew up in Likud from a young age, in the shadow of Shamir. I was in the Beitar movement, I'm not only interested in the appearance ".

They say that you, Bitan, Amsalem, etc. are an independent faction in Likud.

"Absolutely not. There is one faction, which is the Likud. It needs to be convened and activated. This did not happen - and it was a mistake. If we had convened the faction, perhaps we could have improved the status of the agreements. Many feel that they did not represent the interests of the Likud in a good way." .

Now that you, Amsalem, Bitan and Yuli are out, are you a domestic opposition?

Are there rules that you will vote independently?

"There is no opposition here for the sake of being against everything, but there are definitely opinionated people here. No one says 'Amen.' What the Likud faction will decide. But I have proven in the past that I knew how to change things in the faction, such as a construction freeze that Netanyahu wanted. I don't think we will reach such things today."

Then why did you disappear in the vote where Kish attacked you on Twitter?

Was it an attempt to send a message that you are independent?

"I was offset. There was an attempt to hurt me - and it hurt me, because they did a media tour. I think that was not true. Others who went abroad were also offset during this period.

I know that my cases arouse more emotions, and I hope that now that they have received roles, the spirits will calm down."

You ran for Likud leadership in the past, do you intend to run in the future as well?

"I was close to Sharon until the expulsion, then I broke up with him and fought him with all my might. He once told me: 'In politics there is a triangle - every MK wants to be a minister, and every minister wants to be prime minister.'

I support Netanyahu, we stand behind him and I think he is a good leader.

On the day he ends his public activity - I intend to run for Likud leadership.

I definitely see myself as one of the people who deserve to run for Likud leadership the day after."

Is there a fear that Netanyahu will not implement right-wing policies in the Jewish state or in the judicial system?

"I don't think that in the coalition composition we will see a construction freeze. Yes, the system needs to be invigorated, so that we don't postpone things. Applying sovereignty in the Yash is something that I think should be promoted.

One of the first things I intend to promote is the application of sovereignty in the Jordan Valley.

You have to start from there.

I will also work on the issue of governance to fulfill the commitments."

What do you think when you hear the words of MK Rothman and the Noam party about LGBT people, and the words of MK Struck about the discrimination law?

"It won't happen and it won't happen. We won't hurt the minorities. Unnecessary statements. Left-wing people and figures in the media took this up and slandered us, and figures in the world are very worried about it. I told them it was just statements, and that it wouldn't happen. Walid Taha was in the coalition of Lapid and Bennett, who said Very harsh things against the LGBT community, and no one accused Lapid on this issue."

"Not everything written in the agreements will happen"

These demands of the partnership, does this indicate a lack of trust in Netanyahu?

"They will achieve less with this style of hundreds of pages of demands and subsections. Not everything written in the coalition agreement will happen. Forming a government after two months of Lapid and Lieberman in the offices - this borders on irresponsibility. And it certainly demonstrated their lack of trust in Likud."

As someone who knows Diaspora Judaism, are you in favor of amending the grandson section?

"The situation in which non-Jews immigrate here requires attention. But to come up with a statement about changing the section - they don't understand the damage it causes us in the Jewish world. There are many Jewish audiences who think that we are rejecting them. Perhaps we need to take some steps in dialogue to provide a solution, but an amendment This way the clause will cause damage."

There is a section in the agreements that states that the Kotel will be managed only according to the Halacha and the Rabbis, and against the women of the Kotel and the Reformers.

Are you against it?

Are you in favor of the Western Wall layout?

"I am in favor of dialogue. I think there is a place for everyone, for everyone who wants to be at the Western Wall, without provocation."

Are you in favor of bringing Knesset members from the Norwegian law into Likud?

"You have to pay attention that it doesn't go out of proportion. We attacked the government that started this, so it has to be done proportionately."

Do you support firm positions on reforms in the justice system that Levin wants?

Did you get over it at 61?

"I think we need fewer statements, and make the change. I'm in favor of a superseding clause that will make it difficult for both parties. That will make it difficult for the court to invalidate laws, a special majority of judges, who will think 80,000 times before they invalidate a law. We also need to make it difficult for the Knesset, so that we don't have It's easy to cancel decisions. You ask me if in 61, 62 or 63 - I don't know how to tell you, there should be a discussion on the issue."
