"As I write, my relationship with Taufkirchen and the region grows," says historian Dietrich Grund.

He is holding his latest book in his hands: "Chronik des Hachinger Tales".

In his previous six books, Taufkirchen was the focus.

Now local historian Dietrich Grund (80) widens the view and has written a book about the Hachinger valley.

It tells how the region has developed over the past 4000 years.

Taufkirchen

– Grund spent almost the entire year writing his book.

Most of the sources come from his private archive.

An extensive library has accumulated over time.

Grund also drew on his own books.

In the case of individual gaps, he researched the Internet.

When a history professor friend of his had no objections to his manuscript, Grund had the books printed.

120 pieces for the first edition.

The title picture shows a "village by the stream" and is an acrylic painting painted by Dietrich Grund himself.

Deep love of home

Behind Grund's books lies a deep love of home.

"As I write, my relationship with Taufkirchen and the region grows," he explains.

Born in the Rhineland, he has lived in Taufkirchen since 1979.

Friends and family are close by.

Even as a young man, the author was interested in history and politics.

"It's exciting how technology and life have changed to this day."

People have been settling in the Hachinger Tal for over 4000 years.

The reason for this is the good conditions.

"Water for drinking and the stream for fishing, on the bank forest with fruit and huntable animals, areas for settlements and for growing grain".

The next 1000 years of history build on this.

Especially fascinated by noble family

The local historian is particularly fascinated by the history of the Hilbrants in the Middle Ages.

Large areas in the region belonged to the noble Taufkirchner family.

Their possessions still shape today's division of the community.

The amateur historian is also impressed by the influence of the Jesuits in the Baroque period.

It is amazing how much money they have spent to turn the village church into a "baroque jewelry box".

The 80-year-old never runs out of ideas for books.

His next project is the "Grünwalder Forest".

He has already written a small essay on it.

He now wants to deepen that.

The book

"Chronik des Hachinger Tales", BoD - Books on Demand, 1st edition (November 2022), 128 pages, 7.99 euros, in book shops or online, in two Taufkirchner pharmacies
