The Eighth Criminal Court of Instruction in La Paz, Bolivia resolved this Friday to decree four months of preventive detention against Luis Fernando Camacho, governor of Santa Cruz, for the crime of terrorism related to the case " Coup d'état I”.

The governor must complete his preventive detention in the Chonchocoro prison, located in the city of La Paz.

During the court session, Camacho said that it is a fight for democracy that he represents and called on the Bolivian people to prevent the current government of Bolivia from becoming a dictatorship like that of Venezuela and Cuba.

CNN has tried to contact Luis Fernando Camacho's legal team to get a reaction but so far we have not received any response.

Initially, the defense of the governor of Santa Cruz had filed an action for freedom, but this was denied by the judge, so the new hearing for precautionary measures was installed.

The Prosecutor's Office represented by prosecutor Omar Mejillones requested 6 months of preventive detention against Camacho, arguing that he had a high risk of leaving the country.

Mejillones also argued that Camacho represented a danger to hinder the investigations and therefore should remain in pretrial detention.

The "Coup d'état I" case refers to the political and social crisis that followed the 2019 elections, when a coup d'état was allegedly planned against the government of then-president Evo Morales.

Camacho's legal team informed in the session that it will present an appeal which until now is unknown when it will be presented before the corresponding courts.
