[New Year's Eve/Countdown/New Year's Day/MTR/KMB/Citybus/NWFB/Tram/Star Ferry/Overnight Driving/Extra Bus/New Year's Eve Traffic] 2023 is coming.

Today (31st) is New Year's Eve. The countdown to Victoria Harbor is coming again after a two-year absence. It is expected that many citizens will go out to celebrate and welcome the year 2023.

In order to meet the needs of passengers during the festival, the MTR Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line and East Rail Line will strengthen their services from 8:00 p.m.; except for the Airport Express and Disney Line, other lines and some Light Rail lines will run overnight.


The Transport Department reminds the public to pay attention to the special traffic and transport arrangements implemented on New Year's Eve to coincide with festive celebrations.

Among them, Central (including the Peak), Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui and the West Kowloon Cultural District will implement road closures and traffic diversions in phases this afternoon. Some bus and green minibus routes will need to be diverted, shortened or suspended.

MTR Line 4 to strengthen service from 8pm

The Transport Department said that the services of the MTR Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line and East Rail Line will be strengthened from 8pm today.

MTR Heavy Rail Lines (except Airport Express and Disney Line) and Light Rail Lines 505, 507, 610, 614P, 615P, 706, and 751 will serve overnight today, while MTR Bus Lines 506, K51, and K54 Service time will be extended.

About 40 routes of KMB extend service to NWFB to set up several special routes

In order to meet the demand of passengers during the festive season, some bus and green minibus routes will strengthen their services (including extending their service hours) today.

Special overnight bus routes will also provide services in the early hours of New Year's Day, January 1 next year, and the relevant franchised bus companies will also upload details of the temporary service adjustments to their websites and mobile applications for the convenience of the public.

About 40 lines of KMB have extended services, mainly daytime lines, most of which leave the last bus at 1:30 am on January 1.

Citybus and NWFB have added special overnight routes and strengthened the services of some routes.

Extended tram service until about 3:00 a.m. at the latest

Tram services will be strengthened during peak hours in the afternoon and evening today, and the service hours will be extended to 3:00 am the next day.

The departure time of the last train at each tram terminal is as follows:

Extended service of Star Ferry and Discovery Bay Ferry

Two Star Ferry routes (i.e. Central-Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai-Tsim Sha Tsui) will extend their services until 1 am on January 1; ferries between Central and Discovery Bay will operate at 1 am and 1 am on January 1 At 30:00, an additional flight to Central and to Discovery Bay will be added.

The service hours of the Central to Mid-Levels escalator system will be extended until 3:00 am on January 1.

Road closures and diversions in the Peak, West Kowloon Cultural District and other places

The Transport Department reminds the public that road closures and traffic diversions will be implemented in stages around Central (including the Peak), Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui and West Kowloon Cultural District this afternoon. Some bus and green minibus routes will need to be diverted, shortened or suspended .

During the road closure period, the Tsim Sha Tsui East (Mody Road) bus terminus in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Star Ferry Terminal bus terminus and the bus terminus in Wan Chai North Expo Drive East will be suspended from 8:00 pm, 8:30 pm and 9:00 pm today until the road closure Restart and resume driving.

List of public transport service adjustments on New Year's Eve

In addition to the Airport Express and the Disney Line, all MTR lines and some light rail lines will run overnight.


Some bus and green minibus routes will have enhanced services (including extended service hours).

Tram services will be strengthened during afternoon and evening peak hours, and will be extended until 3:00 am on January 1.


Two Star Ferry routes (i.e. Central-Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai-Tsim Sha Tsui) will extend their services until 1 am on January 1.


Ferries to and from Central and Discovery Bay will operate an additional ferry to Central and Discovery Bay at 1 am and 1:30 am on January 1, respectively.


The service hours of the Central to Mid-Levels escalator system will be extended until 3:00 am on January 1.


There will be an enhanced version of the "A Symphony of Lights" fireworks display that lasts 10 minutes on the countdown to New Year's Eve this year.

The Transport Department appeals to members of the public to use public transport services as much as possible and avoid driving to busy areas.

If it is necessary to drive, motorists please be careful and patient, and note that on-street parking spaces will be temporarily closed due to road closures; pedestrians please stay on the sidewalk, pay attention to road safety and be patient, and obey the traffic light signals and on-site Advice and instructions from police officers.

Due to the large number of passengers expected to use public transport services during the holiday period, waiting times for public transport services may be longer.
