Opinion It's okay, you're allowed to smile: this is the right's historic opportunity to complete the job Israel today

The right-wing is back in power - and its voters are allowed to breathe a sigh of relief and even flash a smile of joy.

Two months passed from the victory in the elections to the formation of the government, and it becomes clear that not only the Land of Israel was bought with suffering, but also right-wing governments.

And even though these were nerve-racking weeks, and even though we experienced the power of an intense propaganda campaign, designed to flood us with gloomy thoughts about the government that has not yet been established - we have not forgotten.

We have not forgotten what the alternative was to the government that was sworn in.

We did not forget that until the last moments of the counting of votes after the elections, the left bloc prayed to succeed in establishing a coalition with Balad. And of course we did not forget - or rather, we have not yet recovered - from all the actions of the outgoing government. The destruction of the achievements of the government that preceded it and leaving scorched earth in every arena.

We have not forgotten that the Bennett Lapid government was established to deal with Corona and the economy, and in practice did nothing in the face of Corona waves with thousands of deaths, even though we already had vaccines.

We did not forget that they showed the same indifference to the businesses, which were closed even without closures and whose owners did not receive compensation.

More on the issue of health, we have not forgotten the crisis of interns that has not been resolved to this day, and the agreement that was signed and again not followed.

Orphan failures

In transportation, we have not forgotten the increase in public transportation rates in the periphery, the ongoing port crisis, the aviation crisis after the corona virus, the congestion and the loss of control at the airport - while the minister is busy raising the temperature of the air conditioners in the trains and marking bus stops.

We have not forgotten the drastic increase in housing prices, the cost of living, the insistence on raising taxes and taxing products consumed by the weak.

We did not forget that this entire failure was marketed as a result of an international economic situation, and that no image of any minister was ever displayed above him as responsible for the policy.

We have not forgotten the escalating security situation, and the return of a wave of terrorist attacks on the brink of an intifada.

We have not forgotten the actual occupation by the Palestinians in Area C, and Gantz's "trust-building" steps: the naturalization of thousands of Palestinians, the authorization to reinforce Waqf forces on the Temple Mount, and of course - the mutual visits between Gantz and Abu Mazen, while the latter continues to pay salaries to terrorists.

We have not forgotten the surrender agreement with Lebanon.

We have not forgotten the territorial and economic concessions, and the human security damage to our position in the region - and that this entire move was during a transitional government, and in violation of the Basic Law.

We have not forgotten that the same minister announced at the beginning of her term the freeze on gas exploration, while the rest of the world was preparing for an energy crisis.

We have not forgotten the political damage.

The damage to the Abraham Accords and the demagogic conference in the Negev, which tried to return the Palestinian issue to center stage and the weakening of the anti-Iranian alliance and the strategic partnership with the moderate Sunni countries.

All this, aside from the declaration of a "no surprises policy" vis-a-vis the US regarding Iran.

We have not forgotten how a coalition was established with the Muslim Brotherhood, nor the billions of shekels that were promised to them, nor the funds that passed through the required control mechanisms.

We have not forgotten the freezing of the Kaminitz Law and the non-enforcement regarding the illegal construction, and how, on the other hand, precisely the basic Zionist activity of "Planting" became illegitimate.

We have not forgotten all the anti-democratic conduct towards the Knesset and the opposition throughout that year.

We have not forgotten the political act of establishing a commission of inquiry for submarines, and all the other serious issues that were not investigated - such as the fifth dimension affairs, the use of spies against civilians and the pimping of female prison guards.

And above all, we have not forgotten how this whole nightmare was repeatedly called "change", and how we were flooded with slogans of "we came to work" and hundreds of smiling pictures, alongside a total void of action and policy.

No, we have not forgotten how all this happened because of a dubious deal with a party that instills the confidence of its voters;

A deal that allowed its leader to become prime minister with six mandates.

We have not forgotten the Norwegian corruption, the personal appointments, the broad government and the fortress built in Ra'anana.

And how neither governance, Jewish identity nor democratic values interested them - only the survival of the government.

We have not forgotten that all of this, and much more than the sheet allows to detail, happened in just a year and a half of office.

Back to the track of success

And in the face of all this, it is worth remembering what heights the State of Israel reached at the end of the 34th term of the government, before four years of instability and five elections were forced upon us.

Remember the fundamental law: nationality.

To mention the international achievements - such as the withdrawal of the US from the nuclear agreement with Iran, the transfer of embassies to Jerusalem, the recognition of US sovereignty over the Golan Heights and the declaration that the settlements are not illegal.

And of course, remembering the achievement of four historic peace agreements and the suppression of the Palestinian issue.

Let's recall that all this happened in the midst of the most peaceful decade from a security point of view and the most prosperous from an economic point of view, in which the State of Israel was ranked as the eighth power in the world and among the 20 strongest economies - ahead of Japan, Great Britain and France.

We remember, remember very well the success that was interrupted by hostilities, we remember the struggle against the "change" government, and we look forward to the new government.

So it's true, a few weeks passed and there was a lengthy, and perhaps even tedious, negotiation.

But we were given a historic opportunity to turn the wheel back, and allow Likud and Netanyahu to return to leadership and complete the job.

Address the cost of living, fight the Iranian nuke, lead to more peace agreements and restore checks and balances to the government institutions and the justice system.

We won the election.

A government was formed, the right-wing returned to power - and its voters are allowed to breathe easy and even flash a smile of joy, despite the effort to engineer an atmosphere of gloom.

The State of Israel is returning to a safe path.
