Former member of the Knesset Shmuel Tolidano, who served in a senior position in the Mossad and as an adviser to prime ministers on Arab affairs, died tonight (between Thursday and Friday) in Jerusalem at the age of 101. Tolidano will be buried on Sunday at the Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem.
Tolidano was born in January 1921 in Tiberias, was active in the defense, served in the War of Independence as an officer and continued his military service even after the establishment of the state.
After his release from the IDF, he served in the Mossad and commanded the "fortification" unit, which was responsible for repatriating Jews from Arab and Muslim countries.

After that, he was the head of the junction division and the deputy head of the Mossad.
After his retirement from the Mossad, he was an adviser to Prime Ministers Levy Eshkol, Golda Meir and Yitzhak Rabin on Arab affairs.
In 1977 he resigned from his position, joined the Democratic Movement for Change and was elected to the Ninth Knesset and was the chairman of the State Audit Committee and a member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee.
