Travelers wait for their luggage for days.

At Munich Airport, the owners themselves go in search of their property.

Munich – Hundreds of abandoned suitcases.

And somewhere in the middle is the Pfeiffer family's travel bag.

The crazy chaos at the airport – her piece of luggage was also lost after a trip to the USA.

for days.

But the people of Schlierseer didn't want to wait forever for their property, to celebrate Christmas without the presents they had brought with them.

And so they went in search of their luggage themselves.

With success!

Munich Airport: 30,000 pieces of Lufthansa luggage not delivered

The "drama", as Hanspeter Pfeiffer calls it, began on December 15th.

Due to ice and snow in the USA, the plane in which son Benny was sitting arrived in Charlotte with a delay.

Four hours late, the Lufthansa Airbus finally took off for Bavaria.

"The captain said he didn't know if all the luggage had come with him," says Pfeiffer.

The fear was confirmed: the bulky item, Benny Pfeiffer's snowboard, had made it.

But not his travel bag.

Not an isolated case!

Lufthansa does not want to provide any information about how many pieces of luggage could not be delivered on that day and during Advent.

Most recently, airport employees estimated the number at 30,000.

Lufthansa says that a mixed situation is to blame: on the one hand, the extreme weather two weeks ago, on the other hand, staff shortages among ground staff.

An end to the suitcase chaos is not in sight, it is still high season: Up to 1.3 million passengers are expected in Munich by the end of the holiday season.

Suitcase chaos at Munich Airport: Mother drives to the airport

For the Hund family too, their daughter's first big trip fell into chaos.

On December 16, the Lufthansa plane took off from Munich with Dirk Hund's daughter on board.

It continued via Frankfurt and Madrid to Santa Cruz.

What never got there, however, was the 18-year-old's suitcase.

There were no forms to report loss at the Bolivian airport.

Hund could not achieve anything in Germany either, the hotlines are mostly a disaster.

"The suitcase may still be in Munich, but Lufthansa doesn't even want to look it up," scolds the desperate father.

At some point, the Pfeiffers also got fed up with the phone calls.

Mother Cornelia does what her airport staff naturally advised against: she drives to the airport, asks her way from counter to counter - and is finally allowed into the security area.

There she meets many other seekers - and a little later she actually discovers the travel bag.

Mad suitcase hunt at Munich Airport: conditions "scandalous"

Alexander E., a doctoral student from Norway, also reports to our editorial team about his crazy hunt in the suitcase warehouse.

In the midst of around 2,000 pieces of luggage, he finally discovers his belongings.

"When I found my suitcase, nobody cared - I just took it with me," he says.

Although the luggage had long since been found, as in the cases of the Pfeiffer family and Alexander E., the airline apparently had problems sending it to its owners.

"There may currently be delays in delivery," explains a Lufthansa spokeswoman.

"It annoys us that as a paying customer you are left to your own devices and the airline has completely disappeared," says Pfeiffer.

Hund describes the situation as "scandalous".

He will probably imitate the Pfeiffers - and go on a suitcase hunt.
