Rottach-Egern – Almost three years ago, the starting signal was given for a LEADER project to improve the quality of the cultural offerings in the Tegernsee valley.

Now there is a first conclusion.

"There has been culture in the Tegernsee valley since the monastery was founded," said Johannes Hagn, Mayor of Tegernsee, opening the final presentation of the LEADER culture project "Concept for improving the quality of the cultural offerings in the Tegernsee valley".

In 2019, Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT) applied for a LEADER cultural funding application, a European Union program to promote rural areas.

The aim of the TTT was to develop future-oriented tourism concepts and offers for the valley.

In various workshops, problems and current events were discussed, optimized and new approaches found.

The clear goal of all participants when it came to “safety and major events”: to keep traffic out of the valley as much as possible.

“We have already made a good start with the lake festivals in summer.

Significantly more visitors came with the RVO.

From 5 p.m. the buses were even free.

We offered illuminated bicycle parking spaces so that even more visitors can do without their cars in the evening and still come home safely,” summarized Event Management Manager Peter Rie.

From now on there are also more securities at major events and so-called pitagons, i.e. mobile barrier systems.

"In order to avoid such incidents as at the Berlin Christmas market," Rie explains the decision.

In order for the holiday region to become more sustainable, the TTT sat down at the table with representatives of the eco-model region and Vivo in the “Sustainability” workshop.

The organizers adhere to a ban on plastic, since the sea festivals there have only been reusable dishes.

Waste separation is also popular at events from now on.

In order to avoid the 1000th stand with sausages, as the TTT describes it, even more value is now being placed on regionality.

Sellers with regional specialties are now marked with a board at the stand, the TTT had the first success with this strategy with the beef bratwurst from the organic farm in Gmund at this year's Sea Advent in Bad Wiessee (we reported).

Even if there is still a need for action and improvement in some areas, the TTT can still look back on a successful funding program over the past three years.
