To the sound of protests in the plenum, the Ben Gabir law passed in the first reading (Knesset Channel)
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir agreed today (Friday) that the transfer of security responsibility for the settlements surrounding Jerusalem from the IDF to the police will be delayed by thirty days. Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai and MGB Commander Amir Cohen, according to which the conditions for this are not yet ripe, Ben Gvir asked to postpone the move. This is
a postponement of a move accepted by the outgoing government, which adopted the decision of the Israeli government from 2006 according to which the security responsibility for the settlements surrounding Jerusalem will be transferred to Matza to the Israel Police.
The residents of the settlements started a struggle against the decision on the grounds that the police are not prepared to provide a satisfactory security response in this sector and demanded the continued preservation of the existing situation.
The settlements surrounding Jerusalem include the settlements of Ma'ale Adumim, Kfar Adumim, Alon, Nopi Perat, Mount Adar, Mount Gila, Kidar, Anatot, New Gibeon, Givat Ze'ev and Beit Horon.
