The NBH Weßling Repair Café only started in March 2022.

But it was a resounding success.

The helpers are now planning more appointments for 2023 and are looking for support.

Weßling

– After eight years of planning, a repair café started in March 2022 in the Weßling neighborhood aid (we reported).

Katrinbirner and Andrea Schnabel were women from the very beginning.

In March, June and October, a total of eight to ten volunteers in the Seehäusl offered their help to "give a second life" to broken things in the sense of sustainability, as Katrinbirner puts it in the annual report of the NBH.

And of course the effort was worth it: the volunteers took on a total of 82 repairs.

Ten orders were successfully repaired in the mechanics area.

Suitable spare parts were arranged for five, "these repairs were postponed".

In addition, 40 electrical devices were handed in.

The volunteers brought 17 objects back into shape, for two they arranged the appropriate spare parts.

Torn trousers and clothes were also accepted.

Overall, the volunteers completed 13 of 14 jobs.

The helpers were also in demand when it came to smartphones and tablets, operating problems, setting up sewing machines and more.

"We also offer repairs to wooden objects, for example small pieces of furniture," reportsbirner.

She herself mended torn things on the sewing machine – as a mother of four, she knows her way around torn children's clothing.

Sometimes repair work took longer, but sometimes it was done very quickly.

The applications were processed in the order in which they were accepted.

To shorten the waiting time, there were fine cakes.

There were no costs for visitors, but donations were gladly accepted.

"The income from the hospitality and the donations will be used to further expand and improve the equipment of the Repair Café," explainsbirner.

In 2023, the Repair Café will take place more often.

Four Saturdays are planned, each from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It's supposed to start on February 18th, further dates are then planned for May 6th, September 16th and November 11th.

Anyone who wants to take part is welcome.

“Help is particularly needed in the electronics area.” The volunteers accept inquiries at repair-cafe@nbh-wessling.de.
