The market town of Holzkirchen is tackling three major projects in 2023 – and they are not cheap.

Over 80 million flow into the middle school, building yard and Kinderland day-care center.

Holzkirchen

– 2023 will be the year of the big groundbreaking.

After many years of planning, three major projects are being implemented - although the construction costs have been rising and rising recently.

The most expensive construction project in Holzkirchner's history alone, the construction of the middle school, devours around 44 million euros, of which only 30 to 40 percent are covered by state subsidies.

The community can afford it because income tax is bubbling up and trade tax revenue has recently remained stable.

"I'm cautiously optimistic.

that it stays that way,” hopes Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU).

middle school

There is not much left of the old middle school, the demolition has been completed.

Schmid assumes that the excavation will begin in April or May.

"The price increases in construction are really hurting us," says the mayor.

In autumn 2021 it was calculated at 23 million euros, now the estimate is 44 million.

The new building should offer space for up to 400 students from autumn 2025.

"It will be a modern school with an innovative concept," says Schmid.

building yard

The building yard is finally getting its new quarters outside at Marschall, next to the B 318. The old location on Frühlingsstraße was taken over by a brewery in the early 1980s;

other small locations are spread all over the place.

"The 40-year provisional will now come to an end," promises Schmid.

For 27 million euros (no grants), a central business location is to be built that will ensure more effective work processes.

"So far, the 34 Bauhof employees have not even had showers," says Schmid.

The new building should be ready for occupancy by the end of 2024.

Kinderland extension

In the Kinderland daycare center on Erich-Kästner-Straße, not only the consequences of the fire on All Saints' Day will be repaired in 2023.

An extension to the east, unlike the main building, even has two floors, is intended to allow for seven additional daycare groups.

After the first call for tenders had brought only completely overpriced offers or no offers at all, there were delays.

The construction is likely to cost 12 to 13 million euros instead of the 9.5 million planned a year ago.

A small consolation: the state pays 30 percent.

The start of operations is planned for 2025.

housing

What will become of the five community-owned blocks of flats on Baumgartenstrasse?

For a long time it looked as if a renovation would make little economic sense.

"But now there are also considerations of taking parts of the building fabric with us and increasing the number of apartments through densification," says Schmid.

A fundamental decision is to be made in 2023.

Traffic

After the referendum against the bypass roads, the municipality felt it was necessary to set its own traffic impulses.

"There won't be one big hit," says Schmid, "we're relying on the sum of many smaller measures." Special attention is paid to cycling.

"Our goal is to get more people on their bikes."

marketplace

No more parking spaces, the war memorial can be moved, the street in front of the town hall remains: the rough specifications for the redesign of the market square are in place.

In 2023, a competition is to determine what the “living room” of Holzkirchen will look like in the future.

Schmid wants to implement the best suggestion as soon as possible: "It won't be a draft that then disappears in the drawer."

sports facilities

A running park is to be signposted around Holzkirchen.

Already at the beginning of the year the course is set for the sports area of the SF Föching.

Is there going to be a large ice and multifunctional hall?

At least one gym and a new artificial turf field are planned for the future SF sports area.

Culture

In July and August, Holzkirchen is to have a public art trail dedicated to the owl ("Big Hoot").

20 large and colorful owl sculptures will be placed along streets and squares.

Sponsors are still being sought.

A major event in the summer of 2024 is already fixed: a few days ago, Holzkirchen was awarded the contract for the Zamma culture festival, which takes place every two years in the Upper Bavarian district.

Local clubs, organizations and institutions organize a series of events lasting several days, sponsored and accompanied by the district.

"I'm already looking forward to the varied program of the festival," says the mayor happily.

The change of year

The turn of the year offers an opportunity to look ahead.

Which projects would the municipalities like to advance in 2023, which construction projects will be implemented?

We asked around in the town halls of the district.
