In his first decision, the new Minister of National Security plans to closely monitor what is happening • He even intends to move to Be'er Sheva several days a week • "When I will be there physically, the police will be targeted"

will bring governance?

The Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, will also open an office in Be'er Sheva - in addition to those in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, Israel Hayom has learned.

This is the first decision made by the minister in his new position.

In light of this, it seems that he intends to put the governors in the Negev in the crosshairs.

"With all due respect to the office in Tel Aviv, the Negev is the destination," the minister told his office this week.

"I intend to live there every few days to closely follow the work of the southern district."

On Friday, Ben Gabir, who will officially take up his position tomorrow, met with the director general of the ministry, Tomer Lotan, and informed him of his termination. Ben Gabir's candidate for the position is the former director general of the Ministry of Housing, Shlomo Ben Eliyahu.

Until the appointment is confirmed, the deputy CEO, Eliezer Rosenbaum, will serve as acting deputy.

Those around Ben Gvir claim that one of the considerations for the expected appointment is that Ben Eliyahu has experience working with the government and treasury ministries.

Let's recall that Ben Gvir and Lotan confronted each other about two weeks ago during a debate in the Knesset after the former said, as published in Israel Hayom, that there is waste in the police.

As evidence, he said that the commissioner intends to purchase four Black Hawk helicopters that will also be used by him. Later it turned out that this was a purchase of helicopters for the firefighting and rescue system - a project led by Lotan himself.

To this day, the ministers, including the Minister of National Security, have two bureaus at their disposal.

The main one in Jerusalem and the smaller one in Tel Aviv.

The additional bureau in Be'er Sheva will be either in place of the one in Tel Aviv or in addition to it.

"Israel Hayom" learned that in recent weeks the minister and his people checked several hotels where he could stay.

"What is going on in the Negev is not normal," Ben Gvir claimed again in one of the conversations he had.

"There is no doubt that what is happening in the south is lawlessness and many of the residents feel insecure. When I am physically there, the police will be targeted in everything related to protection offenses, violence on the roads and law enforcement in the diaspora. The current situation cannot continue."

Police sources claim in response to the move that "Ben Gvir may discover that the south is not the Wild West as he thought, but he may also discover that there is a severe police shortage in the area that needs to be addressed."
