On this night of December 31, security is intended to be maximum in the streets and on the Gironde roads.
107 patrols and 296 gendarmes are mobilized to ensure road safety and supervise the New Year's Eve festivities in the department.
The objective of the Gironde gendarmerie, which humorously reveals a map of its 36 checkpoints " of your
choice
" out of the sixty indicated, is twofold.
On the one hand, the military hope both through upstream prevention and downstream action to limit accidents, the risks of which are accentuated by addictive behavior.
In 2022, 54 deaths are thus to be deplored in the area protected by the gendarmerie of the Gironde "
which covers 95% of the department
".
These are three more deaths than last year.
Although the number of bodily accidents is down slightly (-5%), the fight against drivers under the influence of alcohol or narcotics remains a challenge.

By unveiling its security system for the New Year, the Gironde gendarmerie hopes to raise awareness among citizens of the increased road dangers on New Year's Eve.

On the other hand, this reinforced system makes it possible to limit and react quickly to any "
festive degradation
" which is not the prerogative of urban areas.
100 gendarmes mobilized in reserve will thus be able to be deployed in the towns if necessary.
