Some foods that are completely harmless to humans can have serious consequences for dogs and should therefore never be fed.

1 / 9Avocados contain the substance persin.

This damages the dog's heart muscle and, in the worst case, can lead to cardiac arrest.

They are also not recommended because of the high fat content of the fruit.

2 / 9Dogs like to eat grass from time to time and in most cases that is perfectly fine.

But: chives are not grass and, in contrast, dangerous for the dog.

The allicin contained in the herbs can lead to symptoms of poisoning, such as vomiting.

3 / 9Macadamias are found in many nut mixes.

However, they contain so-called cyanogenic glycosides, which cause symptoms of poisoning in dogs.

The same applies to nutmegs, but they are not nearly as tempting for four-legged friends.

4 / 9The same applies to grapes and raisins: never feed them.

What exactly makes the fruit so dangerous is not yet fully understood.

Mainly because not all dogs react equally sensitively with vomiting or diarrhea and it probably also depends on the grape variety.

Therefore, owners should simply play it safe and keep grapes and raisins safe.

5 / 9In the spirit of healthier nutrition, many people now rely on sugar substitutes such as birch sugar (xylitol, xylitol).

But it is precisely this substance that is deadly for dogs in many cases.

It causes dangerous liver failure and an increase in blood sugar levels.

So be careful that the furry friends don't steal anything here.

6 / 9Allicin is also contained in garlic.

This attacks the red blood cells in dogs and leads to anemia at higher doses.

Smallest doses are not harmful to every dog, but it is better to be on guard here.

7 / 9Caffeine contained in coffee drinks, energy drinks or cola is almost as dangerous for dogs as poison.

It increases blood pressure and can lead to life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias.

In particularly severe cases, dogs have fallen into a coma and suffered cardiac arrest.

Caution: Since many dogs like sweets, these drinks are often very popular.

8 / 9Regardless of whether they are fresh, roasted or powdered: onions and shallots are very dangerous for dogs.

Even a medium-sized onion can be deadly for a small to medium-sized four-legged friend.

The reason for this are the sulfur compounds in the vegetables, which cause the red blood cells to break down (hemolysis).

9 / 9Even small amounts of alcohol are dangerous for dogs.

Small dogs are particularly at risk: as little as 100 milliliters lead them to become completely intoxicated and often to ethanol poisoning.

A low temperature, tremors or disorientation can also be the result.

Dogs, especially certain breeds, would probably prefer to eat everything and all day long.

But that's not a good idea for a variety of reasons.

Mistress and master must also be very careful, because some foods can cause stomach problems in the four-legged friend or, in the worst case, even be toxic.
