For the eighth time in a row, the Aufkirchen children's home has been awarded the title "Ökokids" by the LBV and the Ministry of the Environment.

Aufkirchen - "Noah's Ark": With the annual theme 2021/22, the Aufkirchen children's home not only dealt with the diversity of animals, but also with their habits.

It was also about animal welfare.

"Children love animals of all kinds - in the surrounding area and in their own garden": With this motto, the children's home has now earned the title "Ökokids" for the eighth time in a row from the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment and the State Association for Bird Protection (LBV), which has been awarded for twelve years will.

“In order to experience the topic holistically, the children regularly went on hikes.

Their destinations were stables, paddocks and pastures to get to know different animals and their habitat," reports the head of the children's center Adelheid March in a press release.

After a visit to the site – to see the horses in the Zehmerhof and the geese on the Heilmaier farm, in Kempfing to see the cattle in the Baumgartner family’s outdoor climate straw barn – the girls and boys went on to the Mittermayer family’s photovoltaic system in the summer in Niederding.

As reported, Cameroon sheep live there.

“We also often have animal visits in the children’s home.

In addition to the spiders and ants that get lost in the house, the life of the ants underground and their search for food was observed in an observation container,” says März.

Insect hotels are available in the garden.

Flowers would be planted for food.

And: "The chickens from the children's home in Eitting rented a place in the garden in the summer.

Monika Stemmer from Niederding brought chicks to admire.

The preschool children got to know other native animals in the wildlife park in Poing.

In winter, food was also provided for the hungry birds,” March reports.

Environment Minister Thorsten Faithr honored 230 day-care centers this year.

"Despite the still difficult conditions and the shortage of skilled workers, exciting projects have emerged," praises LBV project manager Carmen Günnewig.
