In large parts of Germany, people start the new year with mild temperatures.
According to the DWD, this is a record value.
Munich - Mild temperatures instead of cold and snow - the year 2022 says goodbye with the warmest New Year's Eve in Germany since weather records began in the 19th century.
Meteorologists still expect double-digit temperature values in large parts of Germany even on New Year's Eve.
The German Weather Service (DWD) measured record values for New Year's Eve on December 31st.
In Wielenbach in Upper Bavaria, for example, the DWD recorded 20.8 degrees Celsius.
In Munich it was 20 degrees.
Similar temperatures were also recorded in Baden-Würrtemberg, so it was 20.3 degrees in Müllheim near Freiburg and in Ohlsbach.
Weather: Germany starts the year 2023 with record temperatures
The weather in Germany on New Year's Eve breaks the record value from 1961. At that time, 17.0 degrees Celsius were measured on December 31, according to the DWD in Müllheim.
2021 came very close to this record value, but with 16.9 degrees in Freiburg im Breisgau it could not be surpassed.
In 2023, on the other hand, the record is now broken by a whole 3 degrees.
In Switzerland, too, it was warmer in many places on New Year's Eve than it had been on that day since regular measurements began.
In north-west Germany it is said to be very windy in addition to the warm temperatures.
In the Netherlands, some large fireworks were even canceled due to stormy weather, including a fireworks show in Amsterdam.
