When the carnival in Bichl starts into its hot phase on January 14th, they will be at the forefront at balls and festivals: Sophie Schanzer and Korbinian Miller are the children's prince couple of the current season.

Weeks of training are behind the two.

Now they are looking forward to the start of carnival.

Bichl – No, Korbinian has not stepped on his princess' toes yet.

The twelve-year-old expressly affirmed this in an interview with the local newspaper.

And Sophie nods in confirmation.

Since the beginning of the new school year, the two young people have been training once a week in order to cut a good figure on the dance floor with waltzes and show dances in the approaching carnival season.

The two of them are no strangers to dancing.

13-year-old Sophie has been dancing in the Bichler Garde since 2018 and is also active in the local traditional costume club - as is Korbinian, who has been with the traditional costumers since childhood.

So the young boy already knew how to dance the waltz before Sophie asked him if he wouldn't want to be her prince during the 2022/23 carnival season.

Think again for a moment

But he still didn't say yes to Sophie's question.

"I've been thinking about it for a day," recalls Korbinian.

But then he came to the conclusion that it could certainly be "a cool experience" to be a carnival prince.

"I was quite keen on it." In addition, Sophie and Korbinian have been good friends for many years.

And if a good friend asks you for something, you shouldn't say no.

And so Sophie became "Princess Sophie I. vom wuiden Dorfbacheck" and Korbinian "Prinz Korbi I. vo de Edelweiß-Plattler" - two titles that the two were allowed to choose themselves.

Benedikt Poschenrieder acts as her court marshal.

Robe still remains a mystery

Together with their young trainers Simone Bauer (19) and Melanie Geiger (18), who also developed the choreography for the prince waltz and show dance and put together the pieces of music for it, Sophie and Korbinian have practiced a wide variety of dance steps over the past few weeks.

They both enjoy the training, they assure.

Korbinian even so much that he would do carnival prince again at any time.

Why?

"I like the total package."

The two were of course allowed to have a say in the design of their costumes, which Sophie's mum and other carnival enthusiasts tailored themselves.

What exactly the carnival costume looks like must of course remain a secret until January 14th.

But the two young people reveal which color will dominate the dresses, trousers and jackets: they have decided on a strong shade of red.

Numerous performances are planned

Sophie and Korbinian are not nervous when they think about the coming weeks, in which they will appear at numerous children's balls and complete various dances in schools and kindergartens.

Both are used to performances from the traditional costume association.

They are looking forward to the carnival season - even if it means that they will have less time for their other hobbies such as playing the guitar (Sophie) or playing football (Korbinian).

But maybe that's why they're looking forward to carnival because they'll have a little less school then?

The Highnesses get an exemption from the lessons for big performances that take place during the lesson time.
