New Year's Eve in Garmisch-Partenkirchen called for the emergency services.

They had to go out to two fires.

Countless fireworks were set off in the town center, some of which exploded in crowds of people or were deliberately thrown at police officers.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – The turn of the year caused some states of emergency in the center of Garmisch-Partenkirchen: long before midnight, countless fireworks shot up into the air, burning boxes lay on the ground, rockets and firecrackers often exploded in the middle of crowds of people.

Party-goers threw firecrackers at police officers, and the mood was sometimes very aggressive.

The first New Year's Eve after two years of the corona pandemic was tough.

In addition, there was a fire twice in the night of January 1st - including in the former Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is now a home for asylum seekers.

The emergency services were sent to the hostel on Griesgartenstrasse at 1.05 a.m.

A wooden balcony on the second floor caught fire due to a firecracker.

The approaching fire brigades from Garmisch and Partenkirchen were able to prevent a catastrophe with three fire engines just in time: when they arrived, the fire had already spread to parts of the house facade and to the balcony on the third floor.

In addition to adults, the property also accommodates many children.

The residents on the top floor had to be evacuated for a short time.

Luckily no one was hurt

Firefighters quickly got the fire under control.

The building could then be released again, except for the affected balconies.

The damage amounts to 20,000 euros.

Before that, at 12:10 a.m., a hedge was on fire on the Schlüsselkarweg.

There, too, an attack on the adjacent buildings could be prevented due to the rapid intervention of the fire brigade.

Only two cars parked in front of the hedge were affected by soot deposits.

The property damage is around 10,000 euros.

In addition, police and rescue were required by a brawl in a bar on Marienplatz.

Men hit each other with their fists there on New Year's Eve.

All those involved were heavily intoxicated, reports the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police station.

One suffered lacerations to his lips and a loose row of teeth in his lower jaw, requiring medical attention.

The police are now investigating the assault.
