It is time for the general mobilization of Israeli civil society.
Objective: to block projects deemed undemocratic and detrimental to the rights of minorities, in particular the LGBTQ community and Arabs, on the part of the ultra-rightist government that Benyamin Netanyahu presented last Thursday.
Petitions and public warnings are multiplying, while the official opposition parties are struggling to recover from their defeat.
"
Israel
will become a theocracy
," said Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai.
Ehud Barak, former Labor prime minister, invoked “
signs of fascism
” and the “
racist messianic forces that want to tear down democracy
”.
According to him, only a "
non-violent revolt
" of the population could put an end to this trend "
by taking to the streets to bring down this government
".
A former chief of staff and opposition deputy, Gadi Eisenkot, also called on "a
million demonstrators
" to march through the streets.
