New Year's Eve accidents in advance: there are already injuries in several regions of Germany.

Several children are affected in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Frankfurt/Berlin/Schonach in the Black Forest - Even before the start of New Year's Eve, there were accidents involving rockets and firecrackers all over Germany.

Several children were injured in Rhineland-Palatinate, and in Frankfurt a woman suffered from smoke inhalation because her balcony was set on fire.

And firecracker experiments by his adult son were fatal to a man in the Black Forest.

He was taken to the hospital with severe burn injuries.

New Year's Eve accidents: Burning balcony in Frankfurt

In Frankfurt am Main, a misguided New Year's Eve rocket triggered a fire in a high-rise building.

The rocket was fired in front of the house and, according to the fire department, first set fire to a sixth-floor balcony of the building before the flames spread to the apartment.

Firefighters were eventually able to extinguish the fire.

A woman suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital.

It was initially unclear whether she was the resident of the affected apartment.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, two children were injured in incidents involving New Year's fireworks.

In Ellerstadt in the district of Bad Dürkheim, an unknown person threw a firecracker at an eleven-year-old boy, injuring him.

The child suffered second-degree burns to his chest on Friday and required outpatient treatment at a hospital, police said on Saturday.

Officials are now looking for witnesses to the incident at a playground.

In Wörth am Rhein on Friday, three children aged ten and eleven played with fireworks on the street.

According to the police, one of them put a burning firecracker under the shirt of an 11-year-old.

The boy also suffered burns to his chest and was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

New Year's Eve accidents before midnight: Son injures father with home-made firecrackers

In Baden-Württemberg, a father was seriously injured after his son's home-made firecracker detonated.

The 23-year-old son had made an explosive device in his parents' house in Schonach in the Black Forest from legal fireworks and additives from the Internet and stored it on a workbench in the basement, the police said on Saturday.

When the father was doing flex work in the room in the Black Forest town of Schonach on Friday evening, there was a detonation.

Windows and door frames were torn from their anchorage.

The father was taken to a hospital with severe burns.

The son must expect to be charged with violating the Explosives Act.

A pyrotechnician, meanwhile, speaks of fireworks as a “synonym for feelings of happiness”.

Berlin: New Year's Eve riots with pyrotechnics on Thursday and Friday evening - the police had already been warned

Berlin was already the scene of New Year's Eve riots on two evenings: on Thursday evening, around 150 people around a street in Berlin-Schoeneberg illegally ignited firecrackers and rockets and triggered a police operation.

According to a police spokeswoman, around 30 people came together again on Friday evening and threw firecrackers on the street until the police arrived.

Pyrotechnics were also thrown at uniformed emergency services.

The situation calmed down around 10 p.m., the spokeswoman said.

Police set up a fireworks ban zone around the notorious street because of problems there in the past.

In general, the lighting of pyrotechnics is only allowed on New Year's Eve, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on New Year's morning.

Doctors and hospitals throughout Germany are warning people to be careful when handling fireworks because some hospitals are already overcrowded.

Storm gusts can also cause additional dangers when rockets are fired in the evening.
