Forstinning

– “Saint Sylvester was a friend of animals.

So we bless them on his name day, because to bless is to speak a good word.”

Deacon Hans Dimke opened the traditional horse blessing in Forstinning at the maypole next to the Rupert Mayer house, which was now possible again after two years of the Corona compulsory break.

The event not only attracted around 30 riders with their animals, but also many horse enthusiasts who did not want to miss this event.

Haflingers attracted

After the clergyman, who was sitting with altar boys in the carriage of Franz Hundschell, a co-founder of horse blessing, had pronounced the blessing on all those present, the procession began to move.

At first the two horses on the wagon, the Haflinger Alina and Alpine owned by Franz Lanzl from Forstern, didn't really want to, but then they pulled hard and formed the head of a small procession through the village.

Horses of all breeds and colors

They were followed in a loose line by horses of all breeds and colors.

For example Una, a horse from Connemara in western Ireland, ridden by Julia Hitzlsperger from Forstinning, who has competed four times.

Ray, the animal of Iris Böhm, also from Forstinning, comes from the Irish island: "I've been sharing the horse with owner Corinna Bachschneider from Isen for 18 years," she explained.

Other horses, such as a group of black draft horses, had been pawing their hooves impatiently on the asphalt before the start and could hardly wait for the descent.

On the other hand, the cute little Mini-Shetty Cappuccino remained much smaller and completely calm next to owner and breeder Martina Germeier from Frotzhofen.

It was the swarming center of little girls who gave him lots of cuddles.

The little horse trotted off obediently, followed by a mule and two donkeys.

After a round of the square, they all came back to the deacon's car, who blessed all the animals one by one.

For the first time also catering after the event

Those who wanted could now fortify themselves with mulled wine, beer or a bockwurst at the Rupert-Mayer-Haus.

Because the parish council and church administration had also offered hospitality for the first time this year, which was gladly accepted by the numerous guests.

A feed reward was surely waiting for the animals in their stables at home.
